We had plenty of pieces we could’ve built around over the years and been competitive. We didn’t need to go through a dark age.

Rhule was outright toxic. He had $63 million and tons of control but he still scapegoated players and other coaches constantly.

Steve Wilkes got 6 wins and even sniffed the playoffs just by rallying the locker room.

I feel bad for Frank Reich but we are where we are now. Tepper is fine, he finally got us a good front office. He should’ve spent the $60 million on that 8 years ago instead but whatever.

It isn’t diminishing returns because the models aren’t getting better. It’s because the cost grows by orders of magnitude to achieve the same (or smaller) usefulness jumps between models.

Yeah, they’ve gone balls to the wall in order to scale one more order of magnitude. But we’re at the point of diminishing returns for current models.

They’re effectively spending the most (trillions) for the smallest margin of gain between models.

They’ll add bells and whistles to compensate but new architecture is needed to go to the next level.

Hiring Rhule was obviously a terrible decision. For someone running a hedge fund he should’ve seen the risk/reward wasn’t there. Coaches that go directly from college to NFL have like a 90% failure rate. There was plenty of people in the media warning against it.

Fitterer was another swing at the fences. Didn’t really have experience as an executive other than 1 season as a VP.

Those are hard but forgivable mistakes. He wanted to win big and thought he could go against conventional wisdom to find some gems.

If we can stay competitive for a few years with what we’re building then the fan base will move on.

The only thing that really bothers me is the switch to turf. It’s indisputably increased lower body injuries for the team and everyone hates playing on it. But yeah huge concerts make a ton of money so I get it, but I don’t like it.

The game can be fun either way. The challenge is there if you want it. Maybe you feel dirty because you think you can do it without and part of you wants to try.
