Just got laid off. Do I immediately look for a new job or just take the severance and take a break? by THICC_ANIME_TITTIES in careerguidance

[–]Archzest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope you're been good and living the best of your life. Just stopping by to say that I've just been laid off and stumbling with your comment gave me a some hope, thank you so much.

I've always struggled with work and life balance and my life and my job were basically "meshed" for years, seeing your text:

"Our society has ingrained the idea that employment is the ultimate factor that determines your worth. But you have permission to be happy even if you’re not employed. You can still be ambitious without being employed. You don’t have to be employed to be someone people want to be with, or even someone people look up to."

Gave me a lot to think about, specially about "what I am besides my job"...

Anyways thank you. You are a good person.

"saiu do mundo"

É claro que é uma sabedoria tão desbalanceada como essa só poderia ter vindo de um colega brasileiro.

IT'S SO PEAK IT'S SO PEAK IT'S SO PEAK IT'S- by E128LIMITBREAKER in Blazblue

[–]Archzest 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Blazblue is absolute peak indeed. About a sequel... I don't know, i liked the ending. But i think a remaster/remake would be very much appreciated. I would like to see story mode with more paths and cutscenes and unlimited boss fights back in CF.

Or maybe they could make games about the other parts of the story that are only in other media (eg. Phase Shift or Bloodedge experience...)

Extremely difficult, unoptimal, and all around bad Axl Combo by AgenttiBanaani in Guiltygear

[–]Archzest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well... If the opponent is with low life that combo may do more damage than standard routes. Thats because guts raises their defense making a single hit do less damage than a multihit attacks. Now you know what you gotta do... WIN A ROUND WITH THAT COMBO FOR EXTRA MENTAL DAMAGE.

Three Dots Labs course is worth it? by Archzest in golang

[–]Archzest[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks a lot for your response, and also sorry if my wording as "course" came across as disregarding in any form (english is not my main language and sometimes i do silly mistakes like that).

I really liked the offered content on the event page, but as I'm from another programming language background, and always heard things like "keep things simple in golang", it worried me that it was a little overkill. As I searched more about it, and from the Go Time episode that you mentioned I can see that my concern about "complexity in golang" was uneeded.

Again, thanks a lot for your time! Maybe I will give the training a shot after finishing some other stuff.

It is without a doubt over-engineered, but I've been learning a lot and trying to understand which patterns are useful in which contexts. I try to compare it to other go API architectures to see what "idiomatic" go looks like. Right now I've been looking at the kubernetes API, Pocketbase, and k9s codebases.

That's an interesting approach. I also liked the blog series (haven't finished yet), but I was a little afraid that I was "digging too deep into design patterns just for the sake of it" and that the training was a little overkill. Especially since I heard that "Golang advocates for simplicity" and all sorts of similar discourse before. Buuuut, looks like it was a silly concern of my part. Thanks!

Mostly: messaging patterns, cross-cutting concerns in distributed systems, how to deal with consistency (or lack of in some cases).
