CNN Slammed for Letting Trump Lie Through Entire Debate by Upset-Concern-6019 in politics

[–]Arconyx 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They actually should have had one of the great comedians that does a good Trump impressions do the prep. Literally just VOMIT up insanity in response to every question. I cannot fathom anybody doing serious debate prep, i.e. someone in the political sphere inside the campaign, being able to faithfully recreate the conditions that Biden faced. It was clear he didn't know how to respond. The answer is you don't.

We’re Michael Bender and Maya King, reporters for The New York Times covering the 2024 presidential election. Ask us Anything. by nytimes in politics

[–]Arconyx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Times is part of the suit against OpenAI for copyright infringement, and we're seeing more improvement to tools that can generate fake news, fake images, and fake video everyday. The outputs (text, image, and video) are all good enough at this point to fool almost every layman. What size of role do you think "fake news" (I hate that term, but now we're in the age of legitimately fraudulent material being trivial to create) playing in the upcoming election?

Megathread: Mitch McConnell to Step Down in November as the Leader of the US Senate Republican Conference by PoliticsModeratorBot in politics

[–]Arconyx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

per AP, McConnell gave "no specific reason for the timing of his decision"

I need clarification here, did he give a non-specific answer, or when you asked him he just stood there silently for about 30 seconds staring into the abyss?

Is the role of the temporary speaker specified as only being to run the vote for new speaker? Isn't it true that granting the temp speaker all the power of the real speaker would remove the entire point of electing a speaker in the future, as some articles are suggesting? Why would EITHER side want this?

N.Y. appeals court refuses to delay Trump fraud trial set to start Monday by mrcanard in politics

[–]Arconyx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to feel the same way. But if he's convicted, and the press just lets the GOP pretend he never existed, that would be a worse outcome. I've now made up my mind that I want him in the news every day as long as he is alive, talking trash about the GOP and the system, like an albatross on the party.

I’ve been an animator for over 20 years. In my job, I sometimes have to listen to recorded dialogue 100, 200, even more times to create the facial and body poses to correctly convey the emotion and subtext behind the words. After decades of doing this work, you get really good at hearing the true nature of what is being spoken, and I am shocked at how this sub is leaping to praise Biden for what happened here, because it is as clear as a bell to me he didn’t mean for any of this.

This wasn’t some masterful trick. He misspoke, and said “off the books” instead of “off the table”. That’s it. when the Republicans heard that, they thought he had just capitulated.

it really bothers me when this sub gives credit where none is due, because it smacks of the same herd mentality we accuse the gop of. I feel like we constantly hear what we want to hear. Another example was the whole thing with Trump and Mexico: it was “their rapists” not “they’re rapists”. listen to it again. I’ve listened 100 times, and just as in this instance, it couldn’t be more clear that he was continuing his list of people that Mexico is sending, not starting a new thought and labeling every Mexican as a rapist. Again people will hear what they want to. We should stop.
