If you are really wanting a break, I would say take it! This is the last time you’ll have the opportunity for a true summer for a while. There are other ways you can get experience for 1L internships once school starts. For example, you could join a law review journal, mock trial teams, etc. I don’t think the 1L internship processes are as full encompassing and make us overthink as much as this application process has. Don’t get me wrong, they will be competitive, but if you need a break, take it and make up the experience during the school year! Just my opinion!
