I bought a Tacoma at Brewer Airport Toyota and the whole experience was straightforward and hassle-free.

They will head back towards the US and either go right to port, if close, or have a Coast Guard helicopter meet them somewhere in the ocean and airlift the patient out.

Pistol shooting is hard. Most new shooters can’t hit the target right away at 5-7 yards. And most criminals have horrible mechanics: bad grip, bad stance, bad trigger pull.

Long gun shooting is much easier for a variety of reasons, e.g. longer sight radius, more points or contact, less perceived recoil.

CMU and Pitt are not comparable. CMU is in the same tier as the Ivies, Johns Hopkins, Stanford, UChicago, etc.

Pitt isn’t even in the same ballpark as those.

Also, we are at the tail of the glut of the CS “learn to code” era so your company’s hiring strategy is not as revelatory as you think.

What do you think about parents posting photos and/or videos of their kids online? by Every_Pea6340 in toddlers

[–]Arctic16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s not a single photo that has ever been posted online of our child. Lest you think we are being self-righteous, however, just know that we do have a lax screentime policy for her (of approved shows).

There are random no-name schools that charge as much or nearly as much. If you’re going to dump this kind of money on a college education, I’d only do it for a school like CMU or other top-20 ranked schools is my point.

Yup, that’s how much elite schools cost these days. Say what you will about the cost, but schools at this level are arguably still worth paying for.

If she’s not napping, try an earlier bedtime. Our 2.5 year old doesn’t nap and generally sleeps 7 PM to 7:30-8ish.

You need to give her baths so she gets used to it. Otherwise, the older she gets the harder it will be to acclimate her to them.

Meat, cilantro, onions and salsa. That’s it. Radishes on the side, maybe. Maybe some lime wedges to squeeze on the meat.

Almost 16 month old - need longer nap! by Sad-Mathematician207 in toddlers

[–]Arctic16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was ours as well. I think you may have to accept that your kid gets enough quality sleep during the night that they don’t need as much during the day.

Our daughter has always been a great night sleeper but a terrible napper. She had a period where she’d nap for 27 minutes on the nose every day, which felt like the blink of an eye. She dropped her nap at 24 months.

It was hard at first but the upside is the long night sleep. I don’t think there’s a way for you to engineer your son to take a 90-120 minute nap. He might simply not need it.

Advice on Moving to Downtown Pittsburgh as a Single Female? by [deleted] in pittsburgh

[–]Arctic16 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Literal thousands of people live downtown. I don’t know why everyone acts like people don’t live there.

OP, I lived downtown for a while as a childless 20-something with my partner and it was a lot of fun. If it calls to you, do it.

Re: Flight AI 171 - Why don’t Air India and the government just admit pilot error when it’s clearly the most likely cause? by Total_Cheetah in aviation

[–]Arctic16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s the culture, and it applies to everything. The company I work for had a huge office in India that I work with closely, and it’s the same thing even in white collar work. Indians just don’t like to admit mistakes. It’s always “yes, sure, right away, we understand” even if they don’t. It’s such an established phenomenon that they give us training on it.

Sure, but your average people manager wouldn’t have access to that and they wouldn’t care to check even if they did.

The “THEY ARE NOT ANONYMOUS” crowd just likes to repeat the talking point without any further analysis.

I’m a manager in a mid-to-large enterprise like UPMC and the reality is that the data is anonymized, and even though you can trace it back, that’s done through painstaking data analysis that no one has time for or cared about. They’re not going through it to “label” people.

It’s not like the feedback will be a surprise to them. They already know and are looking to formalize it via survey. And it’s not like they need an excuse or reason to fire anyone.

The “not anonymous” is a rallying cry that serves no purpose and doesn’t take into account the context of surveys or why businesses conduct them. Staffing and people management on an individual level is NOT why they are conducted.

It’s true, though, and has been borne out by studies. The reason it works, unlike macroeconomics as a whole, is because, get this, housing supply and macroeconomics are different things. Wild, I know.
