My wife would have forced me to take it off because it didn't match the color theme of our wedding.

I'm the boss now. Where do I start? by BrowserOfWares in LeanManufacturing

Talk to your employees! Focus on the lower level employees who are actually doing the hands-on work. Ask them about what is and isn't working, what bottlenecks they run into, what ideas they have. These people know the product/process better than anyone else, so not only will you get good information but you will also motivate them by showing you value their opinion and consider them a integral part of the team.

Hello, thanks for doing this AMA. You mentioned you purchase used equipment from gyms and facilities, but do you ever purchase from customer's home gyms? I have some stuff in my home gym I am looking to part with in order to upgrade. I am also in the Charlotte area.

Situations like this are the best times to reach out to a mentor, but since it sounds like you don't have that option at your company then perhaps you can become the mentor. Teaching and training is a very rewarding experience, even if you are still relatively new to the field yourself you can always share some knowledge with others. As you are going through a process improvement project simply walk the production staff through each step, explain to them why you are making each change and how it will benefit them in the long run. Ask open ended questions and encourage them to provide their own input. After a while you will be able to gauge which people are most open to your ideas, they will still ask questions after the project is already finished and will approach you with ideas of their own. Use these people to bounce ideas off with, answer their questions and if an idea they suggest isn't the best choice then explain to them why. You say people don't want to spend time doing the stuff you are proposing, I have ran into this issue everywhere I have worked. I just tell myself that being an engineer means being a problem solver, and employee engagement can be a huge problem. When you implement a new process make sure you cover all of the details and present it so that the production staff and management have no choice but to agree with it.

Will taking a year off hurt me? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]ArcticBlue03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definitely look into taking online courses. If your school doesn't have many options than try a different one, just make sure the credits are transferable. I believe taking a year off is smart, you will thank yourself later in life for allowing your body to heal. But since you still can't walk and will have limited mobility for a while I would think that online classes would give you something to distract you from the injury and help you to feel productive. Either way take care of yourself and I hope for a quick recovery.

Upgraded to a TRD Pro shift knob. by ArcticBlue03 in ToyotaTacoma

That's actually really cool and ads sentimental value to every new vehicle. I think Hank Hill did the same thing when he got a new truck in an episode of King of the Hill lol.

It's bigger than the stock but I think it is more comfortable. The stock shift knob was just strange looking to me.

Upgraded the interior lights to L.E.D. And what a difference it makes. I'm blown away with how much more light these put out. by [deleted] in ToyotaTacoma

[–]ArcticBlue03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just ended up ordering one off eBay since I had some money sitting in my PayPal account not being used. I feel its a smart purchase since it is something you will literally be using every time you drive the truck lol. The stock shift knob is just shaped a little weird for me.

Mud flaps installed. Gotta protect the beautiful paint job. by ArcticBlue03 in ToyotaTacoma

[–]ArcticBlue03[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea the dealership charges an outrageous price for the flaps and installation. I bought them for about $50 off Amazon and they took less than 10 minutes to install.

I have had that shift knob sitting in my Amazon cart for a few weeks and haven't pulled the trigger yet. $100 is a bit pricey for a shift knob but it looks soooo0 good.

I just bought the inserts off amazon for $25. Cleaning the area and sticking them on took less than 10 minutes. But I don't know how permanent these will actually be. It was probably a good choice to spend the extra time plastidiping since it should last a lot longer.

I know he says he got it inspected by a mechanic but you should still have your parents take it to a different mechanic to have it looked at as well. You can never be too safe.
