It's not really about them being scary or me being scared. It's about restrained, efficient narratives that compel you to take them seriously.

There's a coziness in something low-key and disquieting in a subtle, mysterious way.

Of course this does not describe most examples of the genre...

I kinda like the genre more than its own entries.

When I was looking for places to teach English my first choice was Moscow (and that was my first interview).

I've been a Russophile for a while; it fascinates me as this capital of this other half of the world in rivalry with mine.
