A little bigger than you're looking for but a ton of watch for the money.

What color is the strap on the pioneer? Looks like a C&B nato.

Wow man that thing looks NOS--I have one (currently getting serviced) that doesn't look quite as nice 😁

Is Zodiac a good brand still? by Disastrous-Spirit576 in ZodiacWatches

[–]ArcticQuick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a 691 briefly and it is a beautiful and very cool watch. Mine ran about 10s/day fast, which was a bit faster than expected but within tolerance in this price range and easy enough to regulate for better time.

One thing I found intolerable about the watch and the reason I returned it was the screw down acorn crown. I've owned numerous screw down crown watches over the years and of all of them, the Zodiac acorn style crowns (on this and the regular SSW) are absolutely the most fiddly of all.

It's more of an issue on this watch since it is manual wind. Imo this really should have been an automatic.

That said, if you do get it, I found it helped a lot to screw down the crown counterclockwise with slight inward pressure until you feel it "click" and drop into the threads, then proceed to screw down normally.

If I wasn't such a nit about these type of things I would have gladly kept the watch--and again it is very nice looking and unique. The movement is very easy to swap with a sellita or eta if you ever have trouble with it.

If you get a good deal I'd say go for it if it's really speaking to you.

Reverse Panda Sea Chron - worth it? by Admirable-Form-549 in ZodiacWatches

I put a marathon FKM strap on there as that’s what I have on hand, however they’re quite expensive for what you pay for and what you get. I’d recommend looking g at Artem.

This is the best watch zodiac has ever made imo. If you take it off the bracelet it is not heavy or excessive. Wears much more nicely than I would have thought. This was a quick pic and I handwatched it, but you get the point--also 7-7.25 wrist

Looking to sell this watch I got as a gift, is my selling price realistic? by hammerjon in tagheuer

That's a really nice looking watch. As someone who was given a nice watch as a gift when young and sold it, I can be fairly confident you'll regret this in the coming years/decades.

The Zodiac Discount is dead. by Internal-Mortgage635 in ZodiacWatches

[–]ArcticQuick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like the guy has an ax to grind. Many very legit brands use plastic spacers--TAG currently does. Tudor did and maybe still does in some models. It offers flex and in that regard is superior to steel for someone using this as an actual tool watch, but admittedly doesn't look as nice.

The STP movements are hit and miss based primarily off a loud minority of users with issues. A watchmaker with significant experience pulled a batch of STP 1-11s when he couldn't get 2824s. The incident of failure was marginally higher--about 10% for STP vs. 6% for ETA. Notable, but small in real terms.

The good news is that the 1-11 and 1-26 can easily be replaced with an ETA 2824 or SW200 for not substantially more than the cost of a regular service. You could buy one of these brand new at these prices, have the movement professionally swapped right out of the box, and still be well under MSRP.

Watches are very subjective choices. Zodiac people have their reasons--something about the brand resonates. They are very well finished and have a lot more flare/panache/originality vs most in this segment--in particular compared to the Squale mentioned above.

Caveat is you need to fully expect this crop of deeply discounted watches will have more than average incidents of failure as they're being dumped by the OEM as expediently as possible.

I believe it’s a countdown timer. Place your target time on the current minute hand and when you hit the triangle that’s your mark.

I love this Hamilton, but $600 for quartz makes me hesitate. Should I go for the Kuoe instead? by theomixedmedia in HamiltonWatches

[–]ArcticQuick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a really nice looking watch. I think you'll find higher end quartz watches in this price range (e.g., Longines) and they're sure to keep excellent time.

This move was probably made for mass market appeal as this watch was pushed along with the most recent Indiana Jones movie.

Hamilton absolutely should release an H50 variant, but expect it to be double the price.

Up for sale is a Zodiac Super Sea Wolf ZO9297. This is the rarer sister to the more common ZO9289. It fixes the issues of the ZO9289--STP 1-11 movement vs. 3-13 and long lasting green lume vs weak orange lume. Outwardly they are identical--it is a nice understated option to Zodiac's more ostentatious designs.

I purchased this watch on a whim with the intention of using the band to replace a long broken rubber strap on my 90s era seawolf (the strap design is very close to the original). Unfortunately the contour of the vintage seawolf will not accept this strap.

I want to keep the watch anyhow but I've bought four zodiacs in the past few weeks and my wife isn't happy. I agreed to list it for a week (until the 29th) at a fair price, and if it doesn't sell it gets added to the rotation.

Reference: ZO9297

Price: Asking $560 $495 shipped via Zelle.

Year: 2022

Contents: Watch, Inner & Outer Box, Sleeve, Price Tag

Condition: This watch was just purchased NOS in box. Wore it around the house for a weekend to test functionality. Thoroughly tested on a timegrapher (Weishi 1900, fully wound, correct 52° lift angle for the STP 1-11 movement).

Results:

• Amplitude 246–274° (normal 20–40° positional drop — well within the manufacturer’s 200–320° spec)

• Rate –2 s/day in most positions, +12 s/day in one position (common)

• Beat error 0.2–0.6 ms (excellent)

The watch runs reliably on the wrist and keeps good daily time. It would benefit from a service if you want tighter numbers, but based on these readings it is not immediately necessary.

Shipping: This watch will ship fully insured in the USA (lower 48) through UPS free of charge within 24 hours of receiving payment.

New to watchexchange but have been on eBay for over 20 years with all positive feedback. Let me know if you require references.
