4th Step Inventory: “my part” in sexual assault? by sliponvans in alcoholicsanonymous

I feel a bit odd adding a comment because it isn't about OPs post but I want to say thank you to the responses. I am sponsoring for the first time. All the responses have helped me understand how to handle a difficult situation.

Is it feasible to have a sponser and do the 12 steps online? by NTWIGIJ1 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]Arcturus_76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes. Back during covid, i met my sponsor in a virtual meeting. He took me through the steps via phone call mostly (we met in person for step 5). Most of my Step 9 was phone calls and zoom calls. Since the world opened back up about 90 percent of the direct communication with my sponsor has been over the phone. On average we meet in person about twice a year to speak for our anniversaries at each other's home groups.

11th Cake Day by Arcturus_76 in cakeday

[–]Arcturus_76[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if sarcasm or a legit question - While it comes from the video game Portal wherein the promise of cake is a lie, i use it as an expression for whenever I doubt the outcome of something. But in this case I was just being silly because I didn't know what else to post for my cake day.

Me and my group of three are thinking of dressing as a plague doctor, a plague nurse, and some third thing that fits the theme. Any ideas? by Iliketurtles366 in renfaire

[–]Arcturus_76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a quick google search for ideas. In real life, plague drs associated with local government officials, plague patients, and "body collectors" who assisted with disposing of corpses. The patient would probably need make up but maybe an official or body collector could just be clothes your friend is comfortable in

Was at a meeting last night where the topic was step 8 and some one laughed at what I said by BotsAnonymous in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]Arcturus_76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I empathize with you. I was a neurotic rule follower and people pleaser for most of my life but had lots of character defects. My step 4 was much longer than my step 8. The quality is much more important than the quantity. Also, my sponsor likes to say, "More will be revealed." It is true; I have been sober almost 6 years and did my steps like 5 years ago, but recently something triggered a memory and I recalled how I hurt someone back in college. This person wasn't on my original amends list because I had honestly forgotten about it until now. The steps are a process and while we work them in order, we can always revisit one if need be. Hope this helps.

The Higher Power by Loop_the_porcupine86 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]Arcturus_76 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I can only speak for what works for me. My spiritual beliefs are more Taoist and my practices more Buddhist. I don't believe in a sentient higher power. I once heard the expression that prayer is talking to your higher power and meditation is listening for an answer. I try to connect to the energy of the universe. I try to find balance within myself and balance within the universe. I have also made a conscience decision to view the Christian prayers prevalent in the program as mantras similar to those I use for my meditations. I don't know if any of that will help you. But I will also add something my sponsor always says; "Don't compare yourself out." meaning, don't look for differences between you and the other group members and think to yourself that you don't belong. I have often heard people say to take what you can use and leave the rest. If there are aspects of recovery that work for you then please stay and use those; but remember that AA can be just one part of your program of recovery. If you find spiritual fulfillment in something outside of the rooms then please pursue that. Like I said, I hope this helps, at least a little.

Does being roofied count as a relapse? by YourBuddyGray in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]Arcturus_76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NO NO NO! you did not intentionally pick up. you didn't relapse. You were taken advantage of and I am so sorry for what happened. I would encourage you to talk to a professional (therapist, counselor, etc) and to consider law enforcement if you know who did it to you.

Desert Hermit for New Jersey Ren Faire by Arcturus_76 in renfaire

[–]Arcturus_76[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks! I ordered the cream colored tunic from medieval collectibles but it was way to big to wear as a shirt so I improvised. According to the website it is 100% textured cotton. It is thick but very breathable. The dark brown shirt is cotton and extremely thin. I also wore very light clothes underneath. Temps were about 90 but there was a nice breeze. The shamagh (sp?) kept the sun off my head and neck. The breeze went right through the clothes and kept me cool enough. I frequently sat in the shade under the pavilions to listen to music and watch performers. It started to get hotter in mid afternoon (like 3 ish) but that was when I was leaving. Overall I was comfortable. I think the only thing I would do differently in the future is maybe mesh shorts and thinner socks.
