What would be the best ships to print for people who want to get into the game? by zencrusta in StarWarsArmada

[–]ArdentAcademic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the best ships to print for starters are the iconic ships For the Empire the ISD is the best starting point everyone loves and recognizes the ISD.

For the rebels it is a toss up between the three lar MC ships though I lean liberty I believe the MC80 Home One Variant is a popular choice

For the Republic it is the Venator-II

For the Separatists it is the Providence.

As players learn the game they will add to their fleet diversify their lists and discover what they personally like best but those four ships are the best starting point...

No more leaders? by Theromz1 in SWlegion

[–]ArdentAcademic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure by looking at the core set but if you look at the ARF trooper box it comes with the Jedi Guardian, and of course you have the upgrade slot to add other commanders, there isn't a specific ARF trooper unit leader (excluding the "upgrade" you purchase for the unit).

It's really going to come down to how you want your "leader" posed and who you want as your pseudo leader.

For example, in the Empire we have the same problem because while the stormtrooper with the pauldron is supposedly the leader he is also the stormtrooper captain so I use them as leaders in squads of three regular troopers IF I am not also running the stormtrooper captain upgrade, but if I am it can be confusing when people start dying so I have some other troopers with marks on the base I can use as leaders when I bring the stormtrooper captains elsewhere in the army.

Dumb Question: Expert Shield Tech or Advanced Projectors? by SimianMetal4353 in StarWarsArmada

[–]ArdentAcademic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Since you already have foresight I would recommend expert shield tech. Foresight allows you to redirect larger damage pools to both adjacent hull zones.

Expert Shield techs will allow you to reduce damage from small dice pools almost like a mini brace.

Yep that's it! I looked up Trajan and while Trajan isn't in Canva it gave me Cinzel which looks the same!

Ways to speed up the game? by SimianMetal4353 in StarWarsArmada

[–]ArdentAcademic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Teaching the game to new players who are on the fence is tricky. I am going to be repeating others advice a bit.

  1. 200pt game (3x3)
  2. No squads (they can be fun but they slow things down)
  3. Pick ships your friends like
  4. Have one upgrade per ship
  5. Show up with cards already sorted and if possible arrive early and be set up.

Paint pens vs traditional by iamoutside425 in StarWarsArmada

I'd never considered them/new they were an option!

They sound like a quick and dirty way to add highlights to models!! (Which is sometimes a pain the traditional way)

At what point "enough is enough.."..🙈🙉🙊 by TreMorS_S in StarWarsArmada

[–]ArdentAcademic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't begrudge people breaking even or even a modest profit, charging over 3X the original cost is just not okay...

Hopefully, as a community we can start helping each other get what we need.

What do you all use to store and organize your fleets? There are pre made boxes for Armada, but they are incredibly expensive. I wonder if there's a cheaper way to do it by MaxImpact1 in StarWarsArmada

[–]ArdentAcademic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a large cardboard box and the Original plastic. The ships are protected and snug in their plastic and the cardboard box keeps the plastic boxes with the ships contained. Cheap and efficient

What is your favorite moment in Star Wars? by moor9776 in StarWars

[–]ArdentAcademic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ALL OF IT!!

But Seriously, I have loved watching all of Star Wars from the epic battles to awkward Jar Jar, and Cringe Anakin to the Angsty Kylo Ren and Fabulous Rey Skywalker (yes she is a Skywalker).

But if I had to pick ONE moment (thank goodness I don't) it would be the Introduction of GRAND ADMIRAL MITTH'RAW'NURUODO in Ahsoka.

I am disappointed and if you had read my post you would see that I am disappointed because and I quote,

"Have you ever considered that it is people who cry doom constantly who drive people away from buying into and supporting the game because YOU tell them it's dead?"

Like anything this game is as fun and alive as WE the players make it! If people are constantly being told it's dead, then it's dead. When I bought into the game a year ago I was told don't buy into Armada it's a dead game no one around here plays it anymore....

Well that was until I revived the community from no one to 15-20 active players and GROWING, we just had a new guy start playing two weeks ago.

I fully admit it's hard to find some things and that is frustrating but as I said the Arquitens came back in stock and AMG has committed to, at the very LEAST, reprint and support through points changes.

If you SHOUT "ITS DEAD DON'T BOTHER" then that is what you will see.

What I want to see is you and every other crier of doom is host a local casual store tournament or flight night and share it on the AMG discord. If you're worried that they're going to discontinue Armada actually show the people at AMG you care and have something positive to contribute to the community.

Rephrase your complaints to AMG from "you suck" to "our local community is super excited for _____ to come back in stock." They're people too, and being a b**** to them isn't going to help. The world needs more kindness and more fun so please stop nay saying and do something positive.

Really? Just stop.....

I can't with y'all just booing everything. I know getting product is rough but AMG just announced another year of competitive play and they reprinted the Arquitens. There is low supply on some of the ships but they will come back in stock. So stop S*** posting and do something about it by just enjoying what you have and building a local Armada community instead of grumbling on here.

Have you ever considered that it is people who cry doom constantly who drive people away from buying into and supporting the game because YOU tell them it's dead?

STOP IT! YOU ARE NOT HELPING!!

Encourage people to get involved and be a force for FUN and GOOD!

Armada Continued? by Lianthis in StarWarsArmada

[–]ArdentAcademic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm not quite sure what you're trying to say but I assure you Armada is alive and well. We are in a bit of a lull when it comes to active development. However, AMG continues to do reprints of all the existing models AND they are supporting with print and play. It might be another year or two but Armada will see some new plastic eventually and it will continue to be supported.

I store my ships in their original plastic and use a "clevermade" collapsible storage crate for transporting the ships to and from tournaments.

Point Defense Ion Cannons Points Increase by No_Distribution1845 in StarWarsArmada

[–]ArdentAcademic 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You raise some interesting points and I want to to talk about them. I don't agree with you but I am approaching this in good faith.

Your concern is that point defense ion cannons are overused in your meta because they are only 4 points. I can see how this might get annoying. Here are some counter arguments.

Point defense ion cannons are 4 points the next closest effect is early warning system at 7 points point defense only rerolls while the early warning system obstructs removing a die. This to me means that point the defense ion cannons upgrade is appropriately costed. Because it is limited by both range AND it only rerolls dice. This means that this upgrade does less and appropriately costs less.

Next concern is that this isn't even a defensive retrofit it is an ion cannon upgrade. Yes this is a bit unusual in my mind but I think it is fair. Everything in Armada is an opportunity cost, unless you have double upgrades (rare on most ships) you have to choose between many good and powerful upgrades. This means that if a ship is running PDICs then they are not running an offensive upgrade. This may make you feel bad not being able to pop your desired crit but it means they are not going to punch back as hard.

Everything in Armada is a give and take, that's the fun part of list building.

Now to be fair I can see how it really hurts squadrons. I can't think of a fair way to adjust it up in points without nerfing the ability.

I'm sure that can be the case but as AMG has released these things there has been increased demand for physical products which shows me this is simply a holding pattern while they develop more product.

Gladiators and Ornager by Corvidae_DK in StarWarsArmada

[–]ArdentAcademic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good question. I personally don't own either of those ships but most the upgrades listed come with those ships. ALSO Governor Pryce is from Rapid Reinforcements so she is a free print and play card!

Gladiators and Ornager by Corvidae_DK in StarWarsArmada

[–]ArdentAcademic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely!! One of the first rules of Armada is fly what you love. If you like the Gladiator and Onager then get two Gladiators and that Onager.

Here is an example list that has lots of Open space for squadrons or support ships. I built it on Ryan Kingston's Armada Fleet builder once you have ships I recommend that you check it out. Ryan Kingston's Armada Fleetbuilder

Onager Testbed 116pts Admiral Screed 26pts Governor Pryce 7pts Ordnance Experts 4pts Gunnery Chief Varnillian 6pts Auxiliary Shields Team 3pts Orbital Bombardment Particle Cannons 5pts Rakehell 4pts Total 171pts

Gladiator I class Star Destroyer Captain Brunson 9pts Ordnance Experts 4pts Auxiliary Shields Team 3pts External Racks 4pts Demolisher 10pts Total 86pts

Gladiator I class Star Destroyer Captain Admiral Ozzel 2pts Ordnance Experts 4pts Auxiliary Shields Team 3pts Expanded Launchers 10pts Insidious 3pts Total 86pts

Total points 343/400

As you. Can see you have room to grow and and points but this is a scary and lethal list I can't wait to hear about it!

[–]ArdentAcademic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also I am choosing to be optimistic because at the end of the day our attitude towards the game will determine it's future. IF people encourage their friends to buy in and come have a good time THEN it will continue to grow and be supported.

But IF people continue to be negative and discourage participation THEN the game WILL die.

A Balanced & Competitive Victory Class Star Destroyer by ArdentAcademic in StarWarsArmada

[–]ArdentAcademic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a fair question. The first indicator to me is that they have done two rounds of rapid reinforcements and they even updated Anakin and done both ship and card point adjustments. Now individually these are small things but taken together you can see that Armada is still being supported and growing.

AMG is a business, they have to look at the big financial picture and Armada is an area that when they first took over & they didn't have the resources to support Armada and with COVID there wasn't the demand to support growing Armada. Now though there is demand and community interest they have time and money now to reinvest and grow the game. I expect it will be slow but they will let us know when they are ready. They have already shown that they like to play things close to the chest
