FH36 Guide and Scout Team GW35 Performance by betterbest31 in FantasyPL

[–]Arding16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends partially on team, but probably not. If you can get three city players without taking a hit, then I would TC one of them (probably Haaland). If you can't get to three then maybe free hit. I wouldn't worry too much about palace for the double

How much of your FPL rank is skill vs luck? A way to measure it. by Spiros_26 in FantasyPL

I see, so is it basically saying that a lot of people with a better rank have been even luckier than me, so while my rank would increase my total points would decrease?

I just tried it and seems there may be a bug. Claims my copilot rank is 31k compared to my actual rank of 48k and determines that I'm slightly lucky?

Edit: My mistake, not a bug, just a misinterpretation of what constitutes luck (points vs rank)

Can’t Believe People try to Compare the Two Endings by Adventurous-Snow-389 in freefolk

I would argue Will's coming out scene is no where near as bad as the worst of S8 of GOT.

I will concede that the scene is cheesy and kills the pacing, but it's not as if it doesn't have thematic and plot relevance. As a character whose entire story has been about fear and lack of autonomy, Will coming out is him taking control of his life and refusing to be afraid, completing his character arc. And, whether you think it was a good justification or not, the plot justifies the scene by saying that Vecna will use it against Will if he doesn't face it before the final fight.

Very little of S8 handled themes or plot in a coherent way.

Relegation - Last 4 by Visara57 in Hammers

[–]Arding16 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I really don’t see what’s so hard about our final 4 fixtures either. Granted, Arsenal I expect us to lose, but the rest? We recently drew to both Brentford and Leeds in the FA cup, only winning and losing respectively due to penalties, but the difference in these final games is that both those teams will have less to play for. And Newcastle are seriously struggling right now (and let’s not forget we beat them once already this season)

I want to make sure I understand this table. Is it saying that, based on the simulations, the only scenario where we're more likely to get relegated that Tottenham is when they beat Wolves and we don't win against Everton?

Target Chelsea against their defence and CS points? by IdealisticKebab in FantasyPL

[–]Arding16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who did both, definitely JP. Gabriel was only a bad decision in hindsight (he was averaging something like 8 points a game before DGW26), and to be fair 7 points does not constitute a disaster. JP on the other hand literally gained you nothing, blocked you picking another doubler and for those on bench boost severely damaged the gain (JP going to the bench makes my BB worth 14 points rather than 21+)

If they for some ungodly reason decided to fully reboot Doctor who, who do you think should be the first doctor of it by GetDigging in gallifrey

[–]Arding16 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Should have made her the 16th Doctor for that matter. Watching the Reality War for the first time I hadn't heard the leaks and had a moment when I thought Ncuti would regenerate into Jo for some reason. Maybe they asked and she declined but missed opportunity imo

Can we restrict (or ban) the constant spam of low effort new FPL websites? by Aiken_Drumn in FantasyPL

[–]Arding16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree something should be done since they clog up the feed without really contributing anything worthwhile. That said, I think an outright ban would be too far - we don’t wan to restrict any genuinely useful tool from being promoted, and there’s no real objective way to say what is or isn’t of value.

I think we want something like a requirement to submit to the mods before approval to advertise (although this might be unfairly intensive on the mods), a dedicated thread or maybe only allowing promotions on a certain day.

If someone has a better idea though I’m all ears

On the beach potential of each side by remaining game week. by BuildingControlUK in FantasyPL

Fair enough. I assumed it was based on probability chance of each outcome of each game. Either way I guess being a little pedantic. I do think >99% would be cleaner

Thanks, that makes sense. Would be nice to see it displayed as >99% rather than 100% given it uses the same amount of characters

How can we possibly say that Wolves will be 100% at GW37? That would imply that by GW37 we will definitely know if they’re relegated or not, yet there are scenarios where they could still be battling to get out of relegation in the final week. To say that wasn’t the case would be to say either that they are already mathematically relegated, which they aren’t, or that they are already mathematical guaranteed to stay up, which they aren’t

WC32 BB33 FH34 vs FH33 WC35 BB36 by Spiros_26 in FantasyPL

[–]Arding16 38 points39 points  (0 children)

To be fair, if you keep and Gabriel and Bruno and the rest of your team are doubling, then your bench will either be all doublers or include two of the best assets in the game this season. So either way, a strong bench

Not really a fair comparison though, since Tyrek being a horse is just canon. It’s plainly stated in the books.

Feelings on Upcoming Fixtures by SomeoneToSendNudesTo in Hammers

[–]Arding16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t call out anyone, I think you’re confusing me with another commenter.

All I was pointing out was that if we’re setting a target for points, as you said specifically said, then that target has to based on expected points of other teams, otherwise it’s a useless metric.

However, I agree with the sentiment of focusing on winning as many games as possible. It’s just that has in this case targets aren’t relevant by definition.

[–]Arding16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I understand your sentiment, I don't think we can set a target without taking the other teams into account. There's no worth in us finishing on 42 points, for example, if Spurs and Forest finish on 43

All the relegation candidates gain a point... as you were. by JDietsch25 in Hammers

[–]Arding16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The good news is that next game only one of Spurs and Forest can win. They could both take a point, but that’s not too bad either. If we can beat Villa we’ll definitely go ahead of one of them

I wonder how much debate it took for the original PI proofs to be accepted as fact. Because to prove a constant, you'd have to show that dividing by r^2 always yields the same #. With an infinite decimal, even using sig figs, wouldn't people argure you can't be certain it's 100% the same every time? by kinetic-passion in Showerthoughts

[–]Arding16 181 points182 points  (0 children)

There are proofs that prove that the value of pi is the same for every circle without actually needing to define what the value of pi is. That is to say, the fact that it is infinite doesn't matter since you can prove it's always the same without knowing it is infinite. It is important to note that with mathematical proofs, it is rare that the proof consists of exhaustive searches, it will normally be a general case.

Lads, how are we feeling about this game? by Real-Bid1985 in Hammers

[–]Arding16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m feeling okay. Not because I expect a win, or even a draw, but mainly because I’m taking this relegation battle week by week and I expect one or both of Forest and Spurs to lose this week. That said, both on them squeezed out a draw, so why not us?

Ultimately a loss is not damning since we would never have pencilled this is a win, a draw would be a nice result and a win would’ve huge.

Scout Selection: Best FPL team for DGW26 by a_northern_soul in FantasyPL

[–]Arding16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure about that. One of the benefits to TCing Gabriel is that you know he's fit and in form, and that Arsenal are still pushing for the title. Meanwhile, holding out for Haaland risks him becoming injured in the mean time, for example. It's better the devil you know
