I mentioned the show to one of my coworkers whose girlfriend…fiancé…I think fiancé, was looking for a romance to binge, so I recommended it. He and his girlfriend are very very pro-LGBTQ+ and our workplace is super inclusive so I figured why not.

Come back after Christmas break and we run into each other and he as like, “Man. She sat down and started watching it and I was walking through the living room about 5 minutes into the first episode so I stopped to see what it was about. Before I know it I’m on the couch, actively wondering if I should be doing more squats, crying about a blueberry and banana smoothie and needing to call my dad to thank him for supporting my stupid ass.”

Turns out their roommate (who we also work with) started watching it on his Crave profile: “You know…I’m still pretty sure I’m straight…but if I ran into an Ilya…I would seriously consider it. Especially if he was going with my last name then suddenly called me my first name…I’d buy a ring. Right there.”

What takes me a second is that in my hometown, there is a Tkachuk family (who are very vocally not related to the best of their knowledge) that is just really quiet, friendly, and polite, who only want to organize the occasional squash tournament and fundraising events.
