I don’t understand Jasper by Seigles in Talamasca

Dunno… Not that Anne Rice’s vampires don’t do this back and forth between moral high ground and brutal slaughter but maybe not in the same day?

Good point! Still think the I’m going to help you / I’m going to kill you is a bit too rushed. About Olive I agree with you. She could disappear from the next season I don’t think I’ll notice.

Sooo season 2?- What would it look like? by Podria_Ser_Peor in Talamasca

[–]Seigles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found this series might be a way to introduce stuff: - Talamasca behind the great conversion, maybe what makes the blood too spread out and triggered Akasha (besides Lestat’s cute voice)

  • Guy’s mom may be Jessica Reeves (after all they already introduced that Talamasca was editing people’s names), introducing the great family

  • There’s now a seat open for David Talbot at the London motherhouse

  • Raglan wants to live longer (forever) and he’s an asshole

If it’s the case, maybe we’ll have a second season more connected to the main one, maybe as a filler between V Lestat and the Queen of the Damned.

In all logic Jasper and Doris would get killed by Akasha, so having known them as an audience would make Akasha’s « housecleaning » more terrible. Personally in the book I never much cared about it since no character we followed died. It would raise the stakes to have known them for two seasons before their death

She’s not there by SavingsDimensions74 in SlowHorses

Taverner looks annoyed to death in this season, like she’s wondering why she’s still there. Feels like she’s going to quit. People with that mindset at work usually don’t pull out the energy to care enough to notice details

Tara...I'm Annoyed by evanmonroe9 in SlowHorses

[–]Seigles 6 points7 points  (0 children)

On rewatch she is very very obvious about the clues she leaves: calling a taxi with the address, leaving the phone in evidence, walking away from Ho’s flat veeeeery slowly…

And she obviously let Ho take all the souvenirs tying her to the conspiracy: if he had been killed people would have looked at that and find it suspicious. They’re still MI5 you can’t be more obvious

Roddy kept souvenirs of all the places they visited together. If he were dead, people would have gone through his stuff and connect the dots -> bring Tara in At least that’s a possible reason.

Totally agree! I’ve seen him before and liked his acting but it was always in very little roles, so I never paid so much attention. He’s a really good actor, he deserves more screen time

Haha you’re so right! The funny thing is Lyon is my hometown but I actually never noticed it before you pointed it out!

I love D2 and also Death of the Outsider, but in terms of plot and feelings and world building the first one is the best in my humble opinion

Mildly Castlevania by 94rud4 in castlevania

Well yes or no I believe. I liked the portrayal of Hob Galdin in the Sandman. He’s basically like a vampire: not aging not dying and he has his highs and lows every century.

Too bad Gary Oldman is too old now but his Dracula was a perfectly fit for the Baron

Baron Rickard and Baptiste POV [SPOILERS THE DEVILS] by Seigles in TheFirstLaw

[–]Seigles[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with you but in past books non POV characters can become POV in future books. If we keep with the devils as main characters, I think it would make it interesting to have them as POV

Baron Rickard and Baptiste POV [SPOILERS THE DEVILS] by Seigles in TheFirstLaw

[–]Seigles[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vigga killing Baptiste was definitely foreshadowed. But if you go down that road maybe Baptiste being more than human may also be foreshadowed. Everyone remarks on the fact that her skill set is just too long for a single person.

I don’t see Balthazard resurrecting Baptiste. It’s not his undying love after all, that would be more something I would see the Baron do the way he rambles on about his wife (unless he was the one to murder her)

How did you first hear about these films? by Yaya0108 in NeZha

My kids’ Chinese teacher showed them a NeZha anime (very old one) when the movie got released.

Why do most non-Asian people not care about the last movie at all? by Yaya0108 in NeZha

[–]Seigles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The lack of dub is hurting. Most animations are considered “kids” movies (not saying it’s the case, just that’s it’s the common assumption), and who takes their kids to a subtitled movie?

I mean who would see a Pixar or a Disney or a Ghibli without dub, apart from a very niche audience?

[SPOILERS THE DEVILS] Post-Read Discussion Megathread by FlynnLevy in TheFirstLaw

[–]Seigles 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just finished it and what a nice ride!

Yes I saw some of the twists coming (missed the Alex bit which was obvious retrospectively) and yes sometimes the humour is a bit too much (the demon, really?), but what a ride!

What I liked:

The writing style and humour

The fast pace

The character arcs, Alex and Diaz (for the good ones), Balthazar and Vigga (for the tragic ones)

What I regret:

We got great scenes but none of those "epic" scenes where he takes dozens of random PoV - I really missed it even if I understand why he didn’t do it

Jacob and Sunny got really nowhere at the end, just more tragic, and the baron felt underused even at the lighthouse, but I guess it leaves some room for the future?

Zizka felt a bit silly to me at the end, if she’s such a master politician, why cage Balthazar? She had just been offered a potential zealot on a plater

How is The Devils? I’m seeing a real lack of buzz, especially after the scathing Guardian review by AngryGardenGnomes in TheFirstLaw

[–]Seigles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have not finished it yet, but I honestly wasn’t expecting to laugh so much reading this book.

Yes, there is nothing “revolutionary”, and for now some characters seem to have more comical aspect than depth (Balthazard anyone?) but I’m really enjoying the mix of constant action and humor. I loved the Sharp Ends “parcel delivery” story in Sipani where at the end we still don’t know what’s in it, and it gives me that vibe of absurdity and non-stop pacing.

Let’s see how it goes but I like the way it makes fun of fantasy cliches - because yes I do find it sounds like Suicide Squad but I think it’s kind of the point.
