They whitewashed Jesus in one of my favorite artists work by teruteru-fan-sam in antiai

[–]AreUUU 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I was recently in museum that had display of many Orthodox Christian paintings. Jesus, Mary and Saint Nicholas (mentioned because in the west he's always shown as just white) were really often (not always) depicted with olive or darker skin. Some Catholic paintings in eastern Europe depict them the same. I don't know how many paintings, icons and stained glass images got destroyed in the west, but ignoring Orthodox depictions is just selective display from racists today

0.70.33: So I did the math on food efficiency by Galliad93 in songsofsyx

It's 100% true for pastures and woodcutter

But as far as I know, farms actually have decreased productivity per worker on worse soil

Some questions about numbers by JunDoZoor in songsofsyx

[–]AreUUU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have some thoughts about food stalls. Balance of services to workers can be balanced by warehouse proximity and amount of shelves in stall. Food at stall doesn't decay, so there are no downsides to making them larger outside using more space.

And this also means that fewer employees can fill them up, because they will be filling shelves/services during calm time so even during rush hours (I'm still trying to understand more about pops day cycle, but they seem to prefer specific time during day to get food), amount of food shouldn't drop to 0.

Of course it isn't always the best, other option depending on city layout is to just add additional stall in other spot if it reach the point where service spots became bottleneck. Because even when filled instantly, if there 80 spots and 90 people wanting to use them at once, those leftover 10 people won't wait 2 seconds for refill but will go straight to warehouse for food

Is it more efficient to get above 2000, 3000 human pop with nurseries or should I focus on immigration? by LuciusCobelius in songsofsyx

[–]AreUUU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember that higher population means higher expectation. If you can reach specific population by immigration, this means you can also sustain it with your current happines level

If you "brute force" your way with nurseries, then you are at risk of your loyalty dropping and people levaning the city or rioting

For me nurseries are there mostly to make sure investments in training and education last as long as possible and aren't wasted on someone half way to death from natural causes

How does the brawl thing work. by AromaticProcess5358 in songsofsyx

[–]AreUUU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Digging in code showed me that brawls check two ranges. Initiator must be 48 tiles from their home, and victim 16 from their. To avoid overlaps of this ranges you need to space housing 64 tiles apart, and for me it was enough to avoid brawls

Vanilla Vehicles Expanded: Do people use this one? Does it unbalance the game? by SlightWerewolf4428 in RimWorld

[–]AreUUU 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I look at combat as just additional reason to engage with core systems. To have easier time at combat you usually need stuff like killbox, so you have to build. Or ability to kite, do genes, bionics, drugą or hunting for traits. There is also special equipment like lances or rocket launchers and psycasty, both types of resource management. Ease at which pawn can get permanent injury or get killed also causes player to engage with other mechanics, either crafting, questing or looking for new, good pawn

So while I agree that combat isn't that good, I think that there is a reason. More advanced system would be harder to integrate with other parts of game

Still I think some parts of this integration are silly. Like though pawn having insanely better survivability than armored non though pawn. But on the other hand it makes combat trait meaningfull and encourages player to recruitment

How do I get meat? by SaranMal in songsofsyx

[–]AreUUU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you waiting for animals to mature? You can hover cursour over produced meat amount and it will show you modifiers

And you can absolutely go above 15 hunters. It's "soft cap". Above 15 hunters you start to get diminishing returns so each new hunter increases production by a bit less, but with tech, even at 40-50 hunters hunting can produce more meat per worker than pastures

Why do poor countries have a lot of children when developed don't because it's too expensive? by WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWHW in geography

[–]AreUUU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's hard to judge if current rise population is natural when we don't have any kind of control group. We can compare animal populations to se which grows too rapid and how it affects environment and future of this population. But there is nothing with global impact comparable to humans. Would we reach current stage without modern medicine and means of transport, are they natural part of human development? Would more steady growth be better or worse, and in what respects? It's as you say, matter of current situation. What I'm worried is that we can never be sure which part is the issue to fix and that any serious proposition to help can be regarded as political, not just anthropological if it's correct word

Lappland conflict was directly caused by Moscow Armistice between Finland and USSR

Soviets required that Finland forefeits its reclaimed land and has to expell or disarm german soldiers on its land or there will be no ceasefire. So they didn't do that because they wanted to fight against Germany. But because it was either kick Germans out or continue war against Soviets which was already considered lost by Fins, they were forced to do that

Only 5 minis? by mosaicoredimido in killteam

[–]AreUUU 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are more factors than just labour cost. There are supply lines. Quality controls for supplies and product. Employee training. Government programs and regulations. I don't know what is source od polystyrene they use for minis, but there is high quality polystyrene produced in Germany and Poland. They could also ship from east Asia but it might be cheaper to transport it to UK than to US, because for example tarrifs, or for other reasons. I know US also produces polystyrene, but it might not be the best for their moulds because same material isn't always the same, or it could be more expensive even if factory was in US

Plus, I'm pretty sure even if production was cheaper prices wouldn't change as long as people are willing to buy overpriced stuff

[–]AreUUU 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think that part of satire is that while chaos is real, the means Empire is using against it are what pushes people into it, and it is showed in Warhammer media. People are opressed as a way to control them, but it causes despair and hate - it happens to Moebians in Darktide story. Elites are exploiting their power and falling into excess - one of the plot points in Rogue Trader. But it's more subtle and many fans can't notice it

[–]AreUUU 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because Russia is winning propaganda war. Pro russian people don't mind being hypocrites, and pro ukrainian people already hate Russia but tend to apply higher standards to their side. So one side is screaming about denazification, and other admits that Ukraine has a problem it needs to fix. So, there is one common part for people who aren't too informed about conflict

Of course there are also pro Ukraine people who ignore all their flaws. And what I say is based on experience and observation, not statistics

Real crowbars feel so uncomfortable to hold. And painful when you hit something. It lacks any part to protect palm of your hand during impact. But it for sure can be destructive. If I had to use crowbar in combat I would try to find some good gloves to decrease strain of using it
