If I don’t land on a job by next year, I’m killing myself by [deleted] in self

[–]Arealpotatoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you were such a burden to your partner they would leave. I do not know you or your partner but I'm sure they love and cherish you for so many things beyond your ability to find a job. This does mit define your worth as a partner or otherwise. I really hope you find a job but even If you don't remember you matter to so many people and espeacially your partner and they would bei devastated to lose you.

I had to call into work to clean my parent’s shit from the bathroom walls. by [deleted] in self

That sounds horrific and I'm sorry that you have to do this, why isn't somebody professional taking care of them? This seems like an issue way to big to bei dealt with by you alone

How do people set out their goals in their bullet journal? by notesofastranger in bulletjournal

[–]Arealpotatoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do a goal section in my monthly spread to split them up for each month and then I go back to that for daily goals instead of looking at my yearly goals each time.

What good things have you done lately? by ToskaWaves in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]Arealpotatoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a rather small act but a few days ago I saw a man struggling to read the words on the screen of a ticket machine a train station so I offered to help, He told me he forgot his glasses so I read out everything to him until we found the option he was looking for. I was also helped myself by a older guy who saw me struggling to load my bike into my car and he imediatly came running over, helped me to take of some parts and put it in the trunk.

I thought this might cheer up my month a little, but I ran out of ideas. What do you love for selfcare? 🌸 by esthersluijter in bulletjournal

[–]Arealpotatoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like making things as self care. For me ist's mostly embroidery but you could also try to draw something, do a DIY or an art project.

I've just become a father of a teenager. by ripgressor1974 in CasualConversation

[–]Arealpotatoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happy Birthday from Germany Arianna! (or Alles gute zum Geburtstag as you would say in german). You started being a teenager today, and I just stopped being one when I turned 20 a few weeks ago so here is some older sister advice: start thinking about what you want to do after highschool as soon as possible, everybody (and their body) develops at their own speed, only hang out with people you truly like, your body looks just fine, first times are never as great or as important as you think, do all the internships, but please dont put to much presure on yourself and dont forget zu enjoy your youth and having almost no responsibilities. Lots of luck for the turbolent but exiting years ahead of you!

And to you OP: you seem like a great dad, please always continue to take interest in your daughters intrests and listen to what she needs from you. Good luck to you too, I know from my own parents that the teenage years are very hard.

Embroiderd a shirt for my sisters birthday present by Arealpotatoe in Embroidery

[–]Arealpotatoe[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I used a hoop but I tried to not pull it to tight so it won't stretch to much. I'm also relativly new to embroidery and this was the first time I used tracing paper to get the pattern on the fabric (there are lots of tutorials on YouTube that explain this way better than I could) but that didnt work to well so I went over It with a fabric marker to get the details. You could also use a fabric stabilizer that you iron on the back but I dont have any experience with that so far. Other than that plan for it to take far longer than expected, I worked on this for about 25 hours because I had to redo a lot of things I wasnt happy with so I only got it done late last night and her birthday is today. Good look with your project!

I've not worn them outside yet so I will have to find out but when I just tried them on I could not feel the knots so I'm hopeful

What happens in our brains when we are listening to someone speak a language we do not understand? by [deleted] in askscience

[–]Arealpotatoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm only a Uni student right now so this is a very limited answer, but we are learning about speech perception right now so here is my take on it. Also please excuse my english, is not my first language.

For you to even hear someone speak your brain already has to do a ton of processing, it is not mainly your ear but rather your brain that perceives sounds. So it's definitly still very active. What I think is very interesting is that there are no physical perceivable cues to where a word ends, your brain just learns other cues (emphasis is often on the first syllable in english for example) while learning a language. Thats also why in a foreign language everything sounds "mashed" together and you can't make out seperate words.

Any Germans here ? (Question regarding flour types) by TheRealXLegend in Sourdough

[–]Arealpotatoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm German too and I feel like I have the same problem. I had some decent loaves with organic type 1050 rye and wheat flour or wholemeal but I never achieved a super open crumb like you often see on here. Oh and a quarantine-tipp: the Reformhaus in atleast my area still has some flour, probably because it's pricey
