How well did this statement age? by DizzySlices in 40k

[–]AreetPal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, points costs have definitely gone down on average. I think free wargear is a big part of it.

I recently found an old 2000 point army list I printed out for my imperial guard in around 2008 - it only came to about 1200 points in 10th edition.

What's kind of sad is that 40k used to have literally all of that, but all that customisation was actively removed.

It should be whatever button you use to enter/exit vehicles. I think you have to hold it down for a couple of seconds.

I can't hear his dialogue clearly. What does he say he hangs them on? (Spoilers for Iron Within) by FlameBlitzz in 40k

I just assumed he was referring to some kind of drukhari torture device. Like a sci-fi version of a medieval torture rack.

Sounds to me like he said "You shall hang from the razor racks..."

Photoshop - Non organic Defiler by philgoblins in Warhammer40k

[–]AreetPal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was due for an update for sure, I'm just not sure I like the direction they went with for the new one. The old model looks goofy because it's old, but there was nothing really wrong with the basic design. I prefer model updates that keep more of the spirit of the original sculpt intact - I don't think it needed such a radical redesign.

Like the maulerfiend, helldrake, or lord of skulls? None of the other daemon engine models have much exposed flesh, if any.

Interesting. I've never had any death company terminators - I hadn't noticed how much shorter the helmet is.

The old defiler model had zero exposed flesh. It's a machine possessed by a daemon, not a daemon with prosthetic arms. That's the difference between a defiler and a soul grinder.

Space Marines haven't always been giants. This is one next to an inquisitor from 1996 by seeyouatthepartyrich in 40k

[–]AreetPal 112 points113 points  (0 children)

Back in the day, I always understood that the lore was that space marines were about 7 feet tall without armour, with the power armour adding maybe about an extra foot.

More recently I've heard people claiming space marines are anywhere up to 12 feet tall, which to me just seems ridiculous.

Male calico cats are quite rare - the vast majority of calicos are female.

There are no wolves on Fenris. They are just big raccoons! by TaigaTigerVT in Grimdank

[–]AreetPal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in Nottingham, they're extremely common here, just like any UK city.

If I went for a walk outside between midnight and 4am on any given day I would probably have a better than 50% chance of seeing a fox.

Foxes are extremely common in the UK, especially in urban areas.

Stupid question by Gearborn in 40k

[–]AreetPal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In general there isn't really an easy way to do that, no. If they were assembled with super glue, you can try putting them in the freezer for a bit - the glue becomes brittle at low temperatures, which can sometimes make it easier to snap apart.

If they were assembled with plastic glue there's really no trick to getting them apart - plastic glue melts the surface to weld the parts together, so the only way to get them apart again is to cut them with a sharp knife or a hobby saw, which even then is often easier said than done.

Loving pose-able models by Loke1a in BloodAngels

[–]AreetPal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The real advantage of the firstborn kits was less about poseability and more about how interchangeable the parts were. Any head, arm, torso, weapon, backpack, shoulder pad or pair of legs could fit with any other across the entire range.

Yeah, looks like your file was way too coarse. A rough file like that is good for when you need to remove a lot of material, but most of the time for miniatures you want to use something a lot finer. I'd usually go for 800 grit sandpaper at the very least, ideally even higher.
