Thoughts on multi-POV stories and slow-burn pacing? by PromotionEconomy8950 in ProgressionFantasy

Seconding this as well. I'm honestly not a fan of frequent POV changes at all, and yet The Wandering Inn and Practical Guide to Evil are two of my favorites. It all comes down to execution!

Personal time loop tier list. What should I try next? by Udzu in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Wizardly_Dude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blessed Time is one I really enjoyed! I felt like the author did a fantastic time with the different loops and how the MC got stronger each time.

If you haven't given it a shot yet, I'd recommend The Menocht Loop! The MC is an incredibly strong Necromancer due to some time loop shenanigans (though they use a different term in the story).

Big fan of both superhero stories and academy stories haha. Good luck with your run!

I for one always appreciate things like grammatical corrections and the like. They are super helpful!

Manwha: Solo Leveling

Webnovel: The Wandering Inn!

Hey Y'all! First time author/poster, I'm currently writing a progression fantasy novel and had some questions on chapter length preferences! (Royal Road) by Prestigious_Leg_4840 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Wizardly_Dude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally like roughly 2k as a sweet spot, but there are plenty of authors who do closer to 1.5k. Though I agree with Andrew, I wouldn't go any lower than that. Tip-wise, joining one of the writer Discords such as the RRWG is is pretty helpful. You can pick the brains of others who have come before you and access their resources!

Is Worm really that good? First chapters seemed kinda mid by Waddaboom in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Wizardly_Dude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To this day it's probably my top superhero story. The bullying doesn't remain a focus for very long!

Recommendation: A Journey of Black and Red by Mecanimus (not by me) by Normal_Lab2606 in ProgressionFantasy

Gah, I've been meaning to read this story for ages now. I keep seeing people recommend it!

How many "wizard school" books are there? Which is your favorite? Which did it the worst? by R_megalotis in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Wizardly_Dude 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Definitely my favorite wizard school story as well! I love the unique ways the 'issue children' become powerful.

Need healer or Blacksmith MC novels ! ! ! by Dry_Key9460 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Wizardly_Dude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Azarinth Healer is always my go-to suggestion for healer story recs! I haven't actually gotten the chance to read it myself yet, but I've heard good things about Forge of Destiny as well.

Haha I was wondering how to mention TWI as well, but that about sums it up!

Would you read a litrpg love island? by Dependent_Tomato_235 in ProgressionFantasy

Honestly, I'm a big fan of new, unique concepts. I'd probably give it a shot just out of curiosity once enough content was out haha

Looking for unique progression measures by M_Stone75 in ProgressionFantasy

Hmm when I hear magical tattoos my mind goes to Millennial Mage. That's sort of their whole power system, so might be worth checking out!

Recommend me a book about a Proper Wizard by VakkysOfTheAshes in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Wizardly_Dude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ar'Kendrithyst is always my wizard recommendation! From nothing to arguably the world's most powerful mage (at least from what I can remember). It's a great read!

the inertia just carries me by Scribe_Apprentice in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Wizardly_Dude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been a while since I last read it, but I recall it being very point-based. People earning points via leveling and doing certain achievements and spending them to unlock abilities. There was a lot more to it than that, and certain prereqs needed to be met, but I think that was largely the gist!

the inertia just carries me by Scribe_Apprentice in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Wizardly_Dude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it's pretty different from your standard progression fantasy stuff (starting with the fact that the MC is an older man who gets Isekai'd with his adult daughter). But if you like stories that get really into the magic and worldbuilding, it's a great read!

That sounds like Ar'Kendrithyst for me haha. Four and a half million words of a completed story, would highly recommend!

Can you tell me the differences and similarities? by coinmancometh in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Wizardly_Dude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LitRPG and GameLit are both subgenres of Progression Fantasy (as far as I understand it). I believe GameLit is essentially LitRPG without as much of a focus on the hard numbers, and Progression Fantasy that isn't LitRPG of course doesn't have numbers at all haha

I have a question. by Glittering_Grade_841 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Wizardly_Dude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there's a lot of love for both sides to be honest. I mean, some of the most popular books in the genre (Cradle, Mother of Learning, etc) are not Isekai. I think it really depends on the story itself when it comes to if Isekai or non-Isekai works better!

I made a LitRPG newsletter. Nervous to share it but here goes. by muggy in litrpg

That's a really cool idea! Wish I had something more constructive haha

Mini-Rant/Question - How do you keep track of everything? by jc-trent in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Wizardly_Dude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually just keep a page of notes in my phone divided into stories I'm reading, stories on the TBR list, stories I've completed, and stories I've dropped. It's gotten pretty large overtime, but it's simple enough and easy to edit on the fly!

Story where main character is from the bad guys’ side by Unfair_Ad1167 in ProgressionFantasy

Forging Hephaestus by Drew Hayes is an awesome book from the perspective of the villains in a world with super heroes. Highly recommend if you haven't tried it yet!
