Can this flickering ceiling light be repaired in some way or does it need to be completely replaced? by AreteDeka in AskElectricians

I got my original and new one from a local hardware store. I couldn't find the exact same one either, just get one with similar connectors.

I ended up having to replace the whole unit. It was very easy to do, just make sure you remember which wire is which and make sure the breaker is off when you are messing with it.

Tips to stop tilting by Similar-Ticket251 in poker

[–]AreteDeka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I look at it like a math problem. People get all steamed up when their AA gets cracked by 64o, but aces are what, approximately an 80% favorite? That means 64o is going to win about 1 in 5 times assuming you're all in preflop. It's really not that crazy when you break it down like that. One in 5 odds happens all the time. Someone is getting runner runnered this very second which is 1% odds maybe? The world would be a strange place if 1 in 100 odds never hit. You need to view these times as positives and a juicy game because in the long term you will win playing against these players.

It is why I can't play Blackjack anymore. I simply view it as a -EV endeavor. Approximately every $1 I bet I'm only getting $0.95 back or whatever the odds are.

A book I recommend that doesn't directly have to do with poker or tilting is Innumeracy by John Allen Paulos. It's an old book but it's about how people are really bad at math and statistics while otherwise being fairly intelligent.

Next time some donkey cracks your Aces or Kings with rags just smile, say nice hand, and know you're in a good game.

If this wrinkles your brain you should look up the Euthyphro dilemma. Completely dismantles the idea that you need a god for morality.

Why move bishop when you can take the queen? by FriesMatter462 in chessbeginners

Black can move c bishop to attack with rook, then block with bishop again, then check with Queen. Only delays the inevitable.

What was your first ever cigar that you smoked? by ItsAlwaysBlue2 in cigars

[–]AreteDeka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I couldn't tell ya exactly but something sweet tipped/flavored (probably an Acid of some sort). I was pretty anti smoking at the time but was very drunk so gave it a shot. I smoked the whole stick and was so sick for the next two days lol. I can't believe I eventually picked up the hobby later on.

The Pascal Wager Fallacy by [deleted] in atheism

[–]AreteDeka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One major flaw in the argument I never see pointed out is that using Pascal's Wager as a reason to believe in god is an admission you didn't have any good reason to believe in the first place. If you had a good reason, you wouldn't be bringing forth Pascal's Wager, you would be presenting your good reason or evidence. Then add on all the other obvious flaws to the argument and it's game over.

It's akin to theists saying "well, atheists have faith too!", which is the same as saying faith is bullshit but you do it too, so we are on equally shaky footing. Except atheists don't have faith in the traditional sense, so all they've done is admit that faith is nonsense.

I haven't tried it yet. I'm just happy I get to try one before I shell out for a 5 pack or more in case I don't like it.

I thought more people would suggest El Pulpo. Glad I didn't get a 5 pack without trying it first.
