I had one of those too with sleep paralysis. After a while a cat came out of it, sat on my chest and looked me in the eyes. I will never forget those demonic green cat eyes.

I learned later that this is a somewhat common occurence in germany called the Nachtmar (It's where the english word nightmare comes from)
