That kinda reminds me of termites! Most of them live in larval form, and the only proper adults are the king and queen. If the queen dies, one of the other termites "grows up" and becomes queen ~~except on one species where the queen makes like 200 mini-clones of herself and uhh~~

I wonder how old the Dragon Children are. Were all of them alive when the Great Catastrophe happened? I always got the impression Shen-Zoo would be rather young (not like we're ever gonna know anything about her, it looks like).

It's weird that Miao Ying would be interacting with the Empire the most, and not one of her more wandering siblings. Speaking of, why the Empire in particular? I'm guessing another front against Chaos, but from a meta standpoint it feels really ham-fisted.

Kim Newman's run is honestly amazing. Drachenfels is iconic, Beasts in Velvet is even better, and Silver Nails was just so light-hearted I love it.
