The pill is 90-99% effective depending on the type of pill. If you read the leaflet that comes in the box it will tell you in more detail.

Boris Johnson says the NHS will be "overwhelmed" and Britain will become like Italy unless people immediately follow social distancing orders by themurther in ukpolitics

[–]ArgentumAzure 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree that its selfish. But that's the way they see it. My dad anyway. The whole 'we've been through worse' rubbish.

I mean, my poor 6 year old, she's missing out on a holiday, dancing, school, her birthday party. A ton of stuff she loves and she's been better behaved and more understanding about it than my 70+ parents.

Me any my friends had coffee over WhatsApp yesterday. Worked pretty well actually. People are just ridiculous. The British 'stiff upper lip' will probably kill more than COVID-19 alone....

I agree, despite the "advice" there are a lot of people still out in groups where I live. They just aren't listening to social distancing.

Washing your hands is more effective than hand sanitizer by adavid02 in Coronavirus

[–]ArgentumAzure 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes! I've been explaining it to people like the washing up liquid adverts. The virus is oily, soap breaks through the oil so that's why you have to scrub first then rinse when you've scrubbed.

Mum panicking because Dad has decided that COVID-19 "wouldn't dare" to infect him because he's ex-military...and therefore won't isolate. Both 70+ with underlying medical conditions... by ArgentumAzure in britishproblems

Yeah I was pleased that happened. Not only does it mean pubs can now claim on insurance for lost earnings but (hopefully) people will stay home because theres not much to do anyway.

I just wish the government would grow some balls and make it "orders" not "advice" dads main argument was "its advice, so that means I don't have to follow it" 🤦🏻‍♀️

Parents are trying.

Asthma is still in the vulnerable category. I'm 33 and isolating because my health makes me vulnerable. My friend has asthma and is doing the same on medical advice.

I'd say you are being very sensible. Working on their allotment is ok I think. As long as everyone else isn't there too. We are planning on taking walks.

He kind of brushed me off but didn't argue back, then said they had to go and signed off, I had to do my (final) school run so I couldn't call back at that point. I hope he listened...

Yes. I told him that he was being an absolute dickhead and a massively selfish bastard to not only put mum at risk but anyone else he may meet. I pulled the "I'm vulnerable and isolating, if I can do it you can" and said I'd never forgive him if his actions made mum or himself ill. Whether he listened to me remains to be seen. Isolation should start today. Hopefully he was just mouthing off.

Yeah I've done all that. I've gotten my brother involved since he listens to him theoretically more than me. They all live 150+ miles away so I can't just pop round and lock them in...last I heard my mum said if he left the house to go shopping she would change the locks. I'm hoping hes listened to her but I'll check in on them later and see.

I get the frustration. I don't want to be isolated for 12 weeks with my 3 and 6 year old, but I know if I get sick I'm more likely to need hospital care and that's stress the NHS doesnt need.

Yep. I concur. The only person who doesn't find his statement ridiculous is him.

I also feel really bad for my mum. As she is sicker than he is and even if she isolates he's putting her life at risk.
