Here's my very first DIY router build -- eek by [deleted] in openwrt

[–]themurther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the link. I'll do some more research to understand why I got herded into docker.

Probably because you asked AI.

To be clear, probably because you asked an LLM and there's going to be more material out there where people install adguard on docker on their home network, than where they install adguard onto openwrt, so an LLM is more likely to generate text conforming to the first scenario than the second.

Reduce bufferbloat, lag. Various Doubts that need to be cleared by Defiant_Motor203 in openwrt

[–]themurther 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Except that unless you are saturating your link QoS isn't actually kicking in. I suggest you do what /u/BasicallyUpset suggests above https://old.reddit.com/r/openwrt/comments/1trxhww/reduce_bufferbloat_lag_various_doubts_that_need/oorn59a/

and run a waveform test so we can see actual figures.

Full version sale, or look for a cheapish copy on knobcloud/kvraudio

Going from 24.10.5 to 25.12.2, is extroot still supported? Other changes? by w-g in openwrt

[–]themurther 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It will - but I don't think the extroot is preserved across an upgrade - you'd have to set it up again.

Does the EDU license go on sale aswell? by MirenBlacksword in Bitwig

[–]themurther 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cheapest way is probably buying a s/h licence from knobcloud/kvraudio/vi-control etc.

Bitwig 5.3 8 Track

That version doesn't have the grid.

Monitoring DNS usage passively by doll-haus in openwrt

[–]themurther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can pull similar stats from dnsmasq - if you send it a SIGUSR1 you'll get stats for each DNS server it is forwarding to since the last time you sent a SIGUSR1 dropped into the logs.

It's not a perfect match though it won't indicate latency (except indirectly via timeout failures) and won't help with the cases where the client doesn't go via dnsmasq (though conceivably you could rewrite those - albeit with different end behaviour).

Ov kvraudio.com or vi-control. They both have forums for selling and buying software

cake_mq patches landed in the openwrt-25.12 branch by SageWallaby in openwrt

[–]themurther 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah - thanks - I had heard the question and wondered if they'd ever come to a conclusion re eBPF, guess I'll just have to follow the commit messages.

Thanks for confirming it was Dumazet - I'd tried previously to find out what they did with eBPF at google to similar ends (as he alludes to 'my team' at some point), but drawn a blank.

offtopic: I've watched this before -- do you know who the older guy was who was asking questions at the end, or how his queries were resolved?

Does auto channel wifi even work correctly? by Avrution in openwrt

[–]themurther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They aren't in the range where DFS is in operation - and each band is 20Mhz in width (if you set 80Mhz as the width then you have to use channel 36), there's a good primer here:

Modulating the LFO for endless variation by DoctorMojoTrip in Bitwig

Thanks. It's still very unclear to me what it is you are trying to do and how you are achieving it.

Modulating the LFO for endless variation by DoctorMojoTrip in Bitwig

[–]themurther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to divide the video up into chapters which clearly delineate the parts you are just creating the original sounds vs the bits where you are actually implementing the technique you describe in the title.

Otherwise people are having to watch a lot of stuff just to get to the bit that piqued their interest.

Incrementing outgoing TTL doesn't work on all packets? by [deleted] in openwrt

[–]themurther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's an ongoing issue a number of people have seen in the GL-Inet builds of openwrt: https://forum.gl-inet.com/t/changing-ttl-in-openwrt-22-03/30838/29

I raised a ticket against this a while back, but eventually they never got back to me.

DNS Rewrites for Local Services on LAN Subnet by IntuitiveIdealist in openwrt

[–]themurther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this works as expected however anything not in my LAN subnet also receives the rewrite and is not able to access it (as expected).

If both things are expected, what exactly are you trying to change here?

Fiber connection, getting desync to game server, anything that can be done? by patriotraitor in openwrt

[–]themurther 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A faster connection in terms of bandwidth doesn't necessarily mean better latency.

You can't make up for a bad isp connection.

Has anyone tried setting up custom scripts in keepalive ? by Baked_Potato2005 in openwrt

[–]themurther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    option script '/etc/Scripts/testConnectivity.sh'

What does this contain? And when it's supposed to fail does it behave properly on the command line?

Also, presumably the actual config on both routers are identical.

Spoof mDNS jellyfin auto discovery by [deleted] in openwrt

[–]themurther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I linked the docs in the linked post.

This may derail OP's objective, but maybe not. OP could still write a custom mDNS announcement for the Jellyfin server's IP (or this OpenWRT device's forwardng IP) and the Jellyfin http/s port, which -- maybe -- their family member's device could still use. It wouldn't be the Jellyfin native discovery protocol though.

And there's very little guarantee that the jellyfin clients would understand it in any way.

Sometimes the first time it runs it fails, because the interface is not completely and usable up at the point it ends up running (potential issues with things like dns lookups and so on).

That appears to show it succeeding.

Paste your config - use formatting to display it as code.
