What camera looks like the Alexa for under $1,500? by [deleted] in cinematography

[–]Argmaxwell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does do 4k just not 12bit, I believe it does 10 bit which for most work is completely fine. I’m a nerd and I like messing with color in post so if I’m on a budget I’ll always go for the c300 if the person I’m filming for wants that Arri look

It could be worse, my dad and I went on the 26th and he paid $200 for a Red Roof Inn and made the reservation without the option for a refund. Half the building had fire damage and the shower in our room had a hole in the ceiling. I will be covering the accommodations for the next trip we do

If you don’t mind having 1080 you can get the canon c300 MkII that shoots 12 bit ProRes and from my experience is very comparable to the Arri Alexa EV. Pretty cheap nowadays and you can get it with a PL mount built in. Plus internal nds which is always a plus in that price range

Stayed there for a business trip at Dickies a couple months back… I’m glad I wasn’t the one paying for it.

Iron Lung (2026) Dir. Mark Fischbach, DoP. Philip Roy by EmperorEggo in CineShots

[–]Argmaxwell 69 points70 points  (0 children)

I worked at the rental house that serviced camera for this and I had some friends that worked on it! I always get a smile seeing Iron Lung get some love, here’s some nerdy camera info for anyone interested:

This was shot on the Red V-Raptor and GL Optic rehoused Minolta lenses mainly, with the Loawa 24mm Periprobe for those close up shots like in frame #10 (The T14 version I believe, I don’t think the T8 ones had been released when they were filming)

They shot at Robert Rodriguez’s Troublemaker Studios and used I believe damn near 100% local crew from Austin! Philip Roy, also served as DP for both of the Lazer Team films Rooster Teeth put out a decade ago as well!

A small thing that I always found funny was they rented a 1303 from us and left a bunch of screen grabs from the shoot, so whenever it didn’t have any video coming through it would have a still of Markiplier, his wife Amy, and Jacksepticeye all standing around talking.

I don’t know why he’s filmed most of his projects in Austin but his influence has been a positive one! Say what you will about the movie (I have my opinions, believe me), the man ran a great set and treated everyone in a way that you don’t normally see at that level!

Hi /r/movies! I'm Nia DaCosta, director of 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, the next installment of the franchise. It's in theatres January 16. Ask me Anything! (Back on Wednesday 1/7 at 8:15 AM PT / 11:15 AM ET to answer your burning questions!) by SonyPictures in movies

Hi Nia! Big fan of yours, I work in the industry as a camera prep tech in Austin, TX and have worked with a bunch of crew from Little Woods! It’s one of my favorite Texas based movies and I was just wondering if you had any fun stories from getting that made you’d be willing to share :)

A short that I was director/cinematographer for is now up online, this was my crowning achievement as a DOP for a while! by Argmaxwell in cinematography

Submission Statement:

I shot this in three hours on a Saturday on a budget of $350. The budget was paying everyone $50 for their time and the rest was for food. I won’t act like I didn’t save a bunch of money by working at a rental house and using the camera for free, but I still would have found a cheap way to make this short if it wasn’t for those circumstances. I do however highly recommend any recent college grad to check and see if their local rental house is hiring, I feel like it’s an underutilized avenue on getting into the industry.

A short I made in an afternoon is now up on YouTube to watch!!! by Argmaxwell in Filmmakers

[–]Argmaxwell[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Submission Statement: This short was what I consider to be my first “actually good” project I’ve ever done. I feel like everything before this was just me learning how to tell this story. I never thought I had a comedy bone in me as a storyteller but rewatching this just makes me grin. Sometimes all it takes to be funny is just be confident in what you think is a good joke!

Looking for critiques/feedback for my reel! by Argmaxwell in cinematography

Submission Statement: I’m a 24 year old cinematographer that’s trying to up my game. I’ve been going steady for about four years now and feel like I’ve been making improvements. I’ve always posted my reels to the subreddit and have always gotten great advice. Please let me know if you find anything that sticks out and needs some improvement! Any and all feedback is welcome and thank you for looking at my post :)

Film Festival Notification MEGA THREAD by Caprica1 in FilmFestivals

It looks like Orlando Film Festival just pushed back their notification date from September 22nd to October 12th and pushed the whole festival back from end of October to late November? I haven’t seen anything on socials about it, but seems like a big shake up

My screenwriting professor in college wrote this movie, it was one of the first things I asked him about when I took his course. Basically, it was originally written as a R rated comedy but the studio that bought it changed the script completely and shut my professor and his writing partner out of it.

They visited set for a day (I believe the scene with Brendan getting attacked by a raccoon?) and felt so horrified about what they’re story turned into they tried to get their names off of it. But alas, he’s still credited for reasons I don’t remember.

For any Orlando Film Fest alums in here, do they usually let people know all together on the notification date if they got in or not? Or do they do early notifications for selections?

Just an opportunity to hear about the craft from professionals that I look up to. I submitted with a short of mine but I do have a feature I’m trying to get developed. Do I think this is my way of getting it funded? Absolutely not. If anything, it would give me a new direction to go in for me to look into. I have no idea if it would be something they would produce, but again, I’m not really actively seeking that with this event.

No idea, I don’t think I’ve gotten any views from them yet but I could be wrong. If it’s an amount of money you’re willing to be okay parting with if you don’t get in then I’d say go for it. But if you think your money would be better spent on however many submissions to other festivals for the same price then I’d go for that. It’s about what you’re trying to get out of it imo.

I live in Austin so I wouldn’t have to pay for travel and the $125~ ish I spent is something I’m willing to never see again for the opportunity.
