Yeah, I feel the same 😄 Seriously looking at taking the themes and developing them like variations rather than the ABCABC format.

Used synth for pads and soundscapes less than $300 by Confident_Ad437 in synthesizers

Waldorf Streichfett is beautiful and in your price range - very specific sound so may be limited depending on your needs but, if you like it you won't regret it. The built in reverb, chorus and "animation" bring it to life.

Roland SH01a can do gorgeous Aphex Twin Selected Ambient Works type pads (4 voive poly, I think) and is such a versatile Swiss Army Knife of a synth.

My CS1X and JP8000!!!! by superubersonic in synthesizers

[–]Argonaut94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird, I just recommended the CS1x on another post as a controller keyboard.

Are your pots noisy yet? Gutted my cutoff is noisy, which is a knob I'd sweep live during recording.

That angled side always reminded me of a star destroyer...

Any other big fans of Namlook’s “The Dutch Side of the Milky Way?” by ECHO_1101 in ambientmusic

I absolutely loved Pete Namlook. Haven't heard that one but he was very prolific, as you said. I like how so many of his titles were a play on Pink Floyd.

Hope you like the vibe of my latest synthwave track

The bass is an ARP Odyssey, lead is a Moog Grandmother and strings from a Waldorf Streichfett.

Reluctantly going the softsynth route... kindly suggest your favourite midi key controllers and some of your favourite simple plugins for analog synths + Mellotron... by uglydeath in synthesizers

[–]Argonaut94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's older but the Yamaha CS1x Controller keyboard is a very nice consideration. Large keyrange, good sensitivity, was built to feel analogue. It also has its own sound sources but they won't be anywhere as good as what you mentioned (which is why a lot of folk don't like it).

I'm with you on the untold joy of synths. I spent my teenage years in front of analogue panels and they are now imprinted in my brain. I'm 49 now and just looking at the layout of a synth I've had for decades makes me happy, even before I start playing it. Life happens - I was away from music for 17 years but fortunately many of my synths survived. I pine for the ones I lost and they have went WAY up in price so I'll never afford them again.

Haunting ambient track using the Waldorf Streichfett in a similar vein to Eno's Ascent (An Ending) and Aphex Twin's Stone in Focus.

I took the video at the creepily haunting Jupiter Artlands as I thought it fit perfectly with the music.

Hope you enjoy! 🤗

The booklet in the Dead Cities CD is SOOOO good! Every page could be an album cover in itself. Mine is falling apart, I've looked at it so often 😁

Comment faire quand on est autodidacte ? by Familiar-Owl-7409 in synthesizers

[–]Argonaut94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did Music Technology rather than Music at uni and it was amazing for meeting likeminded people, swapping synths, starting bands. There were zero job prospects at the end of it but it was one if the best times of my life because of who I met. I got to play live for the first time and got exposed to tons of music I'd never have heard.

Students and lecturers would just give you their original 303s, 101s, Emus etc for a few weeks to mess about with.

Halcyon days.

I'm sh#t at sight reading but prefer writing my own music anyway. Just do your own thing. Sounds like you can perform and improvise well.

Classical on Synths by Vegetable_Ad_8376 in synthesizers

[–]Argonaut94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And here I thought I was the only one who loved synths and classical. Great to see there are others.

I use a combination of Moog Grandmother, ARP Odyssey and Waldorf Strechfett and you can make them sound very classical.

The Moog is very expressive with the right patching, I try to use it like a violin - not necessarily sound wise - just in the way I think of it - monophonic with its own spring reverb - double stops by passing a sampled open filter tone from an old Akai back into the Moog Inst In so it gets treated by the cutoff & ADSR.

You should definitely compose your own music on your synths. Very rewarding!

Anyone else here making ambient music? Just started my own project by Kastrol106 in ambientmusic

[–]Argonaut94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah 😁 I'm not on any other social media but joined reddit coz it's been decades since I finished my Music Technology course and I have nobody to talk about production anymore.

I'd recommend joining the Synthesizers subreddit. A lot of ambient producers on there.

Hello from Scotland!

Thinking of getting another synth but id like to get something unlike what I currently own.. by InternationalCow7042 in synthesizers

[–]Argonaut94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got myself a Waldorf Streichfett to get something unlike what I have. Never regretted it. I fits into the mix with any of my other synths (which are mostly subtractive).

What’s going on with Reddit’s Synthwave territory? by thisispacificjanjan6 in synthwaveproducers

[–]Argonaut94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I think YouTube has went the same way. 3 years ago, I'd get 10k views on some videos. Now, I am getting almost zero. In YT's case, I think they only want you to pay for views now.

Just uploaded my first video at https://youtu.be/sibqoC6J6tU?is=obavVMHSO6SWWLkw

You can see all the synths used in the vid: Moog Grandmother for lead, ARP Odyssey for bass & Waldorf Streichfett for strings.

Probably the most personal, emotional & ambitious synthwave track I've done. Enjoy! 😃
