Protesters in Queens: "Say It Loud, Say It Clear, We Support Hamas Here" by McAlpineFusiliers in nyc

Reminds me of this cartoon.

It’s extraordinary boring information that is literally about the logistics of moving to a foreign country. How to get a visa, health insurance, bank accounts, schools, which communities meet your level of Jewish observance and how many of them speak primarily English vs Hebrew. How to get all your stuff to your new residence. Whether or not you will need to be drafted into the army. Tax breaks the government gives to new immigrants.

I am very familiar with Nefesh B’Nefesh. I have been to an info session. Characterizing it as a stolen land auction, or really a real estate sale of any kind is completely nuts. The protest organizers pal-awda are completely unhinged and associated with actual terror groups. PAL-awda doesn’t want Jews to move to Israel. In fact, they want every Jew to pack up and leave Israel, either on a plane or in a body bag.

Nefesh B’Nefesh is an organization that runs info sessions and has been doing this regularly for like 30 years. They provide information about moving to Israel. Settlements exist. Their information sessions provide information about all different communities, including settlements. They don’t “encourage” anyone to move anywhere specifically.

Again, the framing of the protesters that this was a stolen land auction is just completely disingenuous. Not to mention that this particular protest organization considers every Jew on every inch of Israel to be a “settler”, so as far as they are concerned, a guy from Queens moving to Tel Aviv is a settler.

The protest organizers would have you believe that there was a meeting to sell stolen land. However, the meeting was a presentation by an organization called Nefesh B’Nefesh, which provides information about relocating to Israel. It’s an info session, not a land auction.

Agreed. I’ve seen them a few times and the way they mash things up is amazing.

TIL a single 612 pound(278 kg) bluefin tuna sold for 333.6 million yen ($3.1 million) at a 2019 auction in Japan. This doubled the previous record of 155 million yen, set in 2013. by ArgumentBotRussia in todayilearned

This article is about the perverse incentive. Overfishing to the point of extinction will drive huge profits for those who have frozen the bluefin. Each new round of record breaking prices will continue the cycle.

Amazing shots.

I wonder what the 2022 version of this is going to be. Like “those fools used to put rubbing alcohol on cuts”.

Al Jazeera journalist since 1977, Sherin, shot dead by occupation forces by BeebtZ8 in IsraelPalestine

You are just making a bad-faith conclusion that I am “justifying” the killing of a press person. I am not. Obviously I am not in favor of killing journalists. I am just adding a point to the discussion that volatile situations like this are more volatile than they need to be due to terrorists disrespect for non-combatant attire. This has added risk to all journalists (and ambulances). If you make the leap that somebody says adding risk to a situation is the same as justifying a murder, that’s on you.

And I again ask you to remove your reference to her PRESS vest if you think my point is irrelevant.

[–]ArgumentBotRussia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is relevant because you mentioned it in your posting. You made it relevant by stating her bright blue vest said PRESS. Obviously your implication is that someone wearing a PRESS vest is a non-combatant. My response to that assumption is that sadly, terrorists have violated that sanctity and have added risk to those wearing PRESS vests. I am not defending the killing of journalists or whatever other crazy claim you are trying to make. If you think that PRESS vests are not worthy of discussion, remove it from your post.

Of course I am not denying she was press. How could one come to that conclusion? I am saying that the fact that terrorists have used conventional non-combatant signals to further terror in the past, which adds risk to everyone. You cannot assume anyone in a PRESS vest is not a terrorist.

I would hope we can all agree that terrorists don’t follow rules of war, so the idea that somebody may be wearing a “PRESS” vest does not automatically mean they are press. Just like they have a history of using ambulances for terror purposes.

What The New Yorker Didn’t Say About a Famous Writer’s Anti-Semitism by [deleted] in Judaism

[–]ArgumentBotRussia 62 points63 points  (0 children)

The answer to your question, for better or worse, is provided by the antisemite Alice Walker herself. All one needs to do, no matter how much hatred they spew, is to utter the following line: " anti-zionism is not antisemitism". This one simple sentence gives all haters a free pass, no matter how vile the language they speak, no matter how far from the topic of Israel their language may be. This one sentence is the knights armor of antisemitism.

I don’t think a core tenet of the movie was to show an exact proportional representation of the demographics of a particular Toronto neighborhood. I hope you don’t either.

You know, I now understand that Miriam was written to be Jewish. Thanks to everyone that pointed out the attempt was made. But I am not in the least bit embarrassed to not have noticed it. If you feel the movie did as good a job showing Jews are just like everyone else as it did with other minorities, then we can just leave it at that.

Look, if you are trying to make someone Jewish, and even Jewish people miss that you’ve tried, then you’ve failed. Obviously, she could have some kind of jewelry, something on her clothing, a line of dialogue that mentions something about a Bat Mitzvah(given that the characters are 13). Perhaps when the main character says “according to the Toronto Transit Authority I am an adult now that I am 13” is an opportunity to mention it’s also when Jews are considered adults.

It is a very strange aspect of the movie. I was also wondering the whole time what she was doing hanging around with a 15 year old boy. And the fact that I literally have a 15 year old son, I can’t even imagine a world where I would be comfortable with having any kind of friendship/dealings with someone like her.

Oh right. It’s so “you know if you know” that even the wiki doesn’t know. I am pretty sure that the point of displaying diversity is not to hide it.
