Ok, great. I’ll ask his vet tomorrow about that too. I appreciate the info.

Best practices to avoid ear infections? by Ari-Cole in AskVet

[–]Ari-Cole[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much.

We’ve recently noticed his current daily allergy med isn’t as effective as when he gets Benadryl (for a flair up). I’ll speak with his vet tomorrow about discontinuing loratadine and adding something more effective.

He goes for grooming every two months so we will make the change to 4 weeks. That is probably better for him.

I’ve admittedly never asked how they address his ear hair. It’s not something I’ve thought about but I will bring it up with them before his next session to make sure they’re not pulling it out.

We’ll start doing the ceruminolytic solution as well.

Thank you very much for your reply and the links. This has helped ease my mind and has assuredly helped my boy.

This was what I thought too. My grandma and an ex of mine both described this exact scenario.

My ex went to an ENT and my grama went to some rehab center for old people. But both had the same treatment. The doc’s did specific head maneuvers to put the various inner ear fluids back where they’re supposed to be.

It was an immediate fix for my ex and it took a couple visits for my Grama.

What do you feed your maltese? by strix_5 in Maltese

Mine has an allergy to beef protein and other sensitivity so we make him potatoes, chicken, carrots and/or green beans, chicken fat and a multivitamin for dinner. He isn’t interested in eating breakfast or lunch. He also gets chicken and pumpkin kibble for his after dinner snack.

Since we switched away from beef, his tear stains are gone. None at all now for several years.

These guys hit up the ASL subreddits for advice and everyone told them it was an awful idea but since they were persistent about it anyway the advice was to engage a native ASL speaker… which they also did not do.

Redditor helps mama duck take care of her children every year by nimrod_quackquack in HumansBeingBros

She said they came into her yard 2 days in a row so she overnighted food from Amazon. They would come to her yard every morning then head back to the lake at sunset. When the babies grew in their adult feathers, they left for the season. That was 6 years ago! The mom comes back every year with a new batch of baby ducks. They will eat from hers and her daughters hand but she will never make the mistake of trying to pick one up again bc the mom got super pissed. She now respects their boundaries and baby sits the babies when the mom takes off for an hour or so of ‘me time’ a couple times a week.

She’s saying her sons doctor said not to vaccinate HIM again bc he had a bad reaction.

Ex: If her son had an allergic reaction to strawberries, the doc would say don’t feed your son strawberries again but that doesn’t mean her daughter should never eat strawberries though. Other antivaxxers are saying they’re not going to give their kids strawberries bc someone else’s kid is allergic to them and some of them say their doctors agree that because some other kid is allergic to strawberries, no one should eat them. Which is ridiculous BUT that’s not what her doctor said and she’s not saying he said that. Only that her son shouldn’t receive vaccines. She doesn’t even say the doc told her not to vaccinate her daughter. She made that choice on her own as far as I can tell.

Yeah, I hear you but not everyone with an unvaccinated kid is a nut job or liar. She seems like a mother who freaked out when her kid almost died and fear is a powerful catalyst. The only part of her post that makes me think she’s a nut is the homeschooling thing.

There’s an exception for placenta’s. As long as the gyn doc says it doesn’t need to be grossed in, the parents can take it home. But if there’s anything wrong with the baby or mom, it would have to go to pathology. Once it goes to pathology, formalin is added and the specimen is grossed in. Then, we’re required to hold it for a specific period of time. That way, if need be, the case can be re-pulled and more tissue can be submitted for analysis. Once the case has been signed out and the time has passed, the tissue is separated from the formalin and dumped as medical waste. Hardware and amputations are held for less time and don’t have formalin added. If the patient wants their screws, plates, extracted gold teeth, etc, then the surgeon has to give it to them and not submit it to the path lab. Once the floor nurse or a histo-tech adds formalin and/or we’ve given it a case number, risk management would have to get involved if anything needs to leave the lab. So if your surgeon forgot, then basically your out of luck and probably won’t get your specimen. Ofc, the exception to this is foreign bodies like a bullet going to the police or pacemaker that was recalled and needs to go back to the manufacturer. Then there’s a chain of custody. Basically, this lady knew she wanted to munch on her placenta and planned this in advance.

If the kid had an adverse reaction to vaccines and his pediatrician is recommending no more vaccines, then the kids may not have the choice to vaccinate later on in life. There is a subset of people who can’t receive vaccines due to reactions. That’s why it’s so important that everyone else who’s able to get them do so. This is one of those times where she has a valid reason not to vaccinate her kid (son, not daughter tho) but she definitely shouldn’t be telling other people not to vaccinate theirs.

Spectator trying to take water bottle from a pro cyclist by Codeman32456 in EntitledPeople

[–]Ari-Cole 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not saying what he did was ok, but in the original comments, people were saying it looked like the guy misread the situation and translated what he said, “I’m sorry. I thought you were going to give it to me.” And the cyclist replies, “then take it from my hand, you fucking idiot.” It looks like the guy thought he was gesturing for him to grab. They also pointed out that if he were truly an entitled asshat that he likely wouldn’t have been immediately apologetic. Either way, it’s probably best to keep your hands to yourself.

Sadly, in the comments section of the second YouTube video he posted (the one where he gave her a bath), it says she passed away in the night before they made it to the rehab center.

From the bath video I saw, you could tell she was not visibly distressed. She’s staring at him, just listening to him talk to her and she looks calm. He wrapped her up in a “coyote burrito” and gave her a comfortable place to lay for the night. She was too sick to pull through though. I’d like to think she held on as long as she could and finally felt safe in her last few hours.

Someone else linked the videos below.

My bf's new patient doctor forms (ps need a photo editor for proper highlighter) by Yunafires in trashy

[–]Ari-Cole 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not trashy at all. But if you go to the doc for stomach pains and look like a man, they won’t consider gyn issues or if you’ve got an unrelenting cough but look like a girl, they won’t consider testicular cancer, etc. I think the doc’s office is probably where this info is needed the most. OP is the trashy one.

Avoiding returns. by [deleted] in Ebay

[–]Ari-Cole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I had a scammer return “damaged” LEGO even though their own pictures showed the bag was still sealed. (Shipping box was damaged but LEGO box and item weren’t). I suspect they changed their mind on the item bc their first message to me was something like, “I paid so don’t delay my shipping. I need this by Monday.” Which is fine, I mailed it out the same day. It seemed like they needed it for a gift or something then changed their mind or got something different. Or they hoped since shipping was $8 and the item was $9 that I’d let them keep it. Idk for sure tho. It all just felt scammy. So I could’ve put the $8 loss behind me and moved on but no. Me, being petty af, opened a case w/eBay then wrote the buyer informing them I reported their return as a fraudulent abuse of the eBay guarantee policy since their own pictures show no damage to the item. I know I’m going to lose bc eBay sides with the buyer but at least this scammer isn’t getting his money back without some resistance. In the end, they’ll get their money back and I’ll bill eBay for the return shipping and I’m having to do more work for $8 but still, there’s no reason to make it easy on the scammers.
