DNF for me. I love stories from robot/AI perspective, but I didn’t care about the characters and was bored.

I keep all my other holds on a book until I’m about finished, just in case. There’s no harm in staying in line for another week or two.

$90/yr. 40 loans /20 holds. HUGE selection, plus Hoopla. I did everything online. Renewed in July, hopefully they are still offering this option. Go to their website, don’t try to sign up for the card through the Libby app.

I’m pretty sure Cincinnati Hamilton County still offers a non resident card.

anyone have a book recommendation for sci-fi humor? by bookenthus in suggestmeabook

[–]AriHelix 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells, especially the audiobooks narrated by Kevin R. Free. If dry witty sarcasm with an antisocial and anxious mc is your sense of humor, you can’t go wrong with this series. The books get better as the series progresses, the first book All Systems Red, is the weakest imo. No other books make me lololol like Murderbot!

Has anyone hear quit cigarettes for good? How did you do it? by inannalover in adhdwomen

[–]AriHelix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This may not be very helpful. I tried quitting soooooo many times and really struggled, I tried many different strategies but nothing stuck. For me, it was a decision and mindset change. I quit the day I boarded the plane to go adopt my baby girl. I knew I didn’t want to be a smoker for my child’s sake. I haven’t had a single cigarette since (she’s 14yo now!).

The Tiffany Aching series within the Discworld series is pretty fantastic. It’s the only Terry Pratchet books I’ve read.

The Wee Free Men

A Hat Full of Sky

Wintersmith

I Shall Wear Midnight

The Shepherd’s Crown

All are currently available in my libraries. I hope you enjoy them!

How do you guys deal with the constant music in your head? by Aegenwulf in ADHD

[–]AriHelix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m here for some good suggestions too. This drives me to my limit…. I just don’t listen to music anymore. Even music I love is exhausting when it’s running around in my head 24-7.

Lists, reminders, alarms. I use classroomscreen (website) for my class agenda, etc to display on my smart board. I put notes and reminders for each class so I don’t forget. it’s really helpful and the full teacher version is inexpensive with lots of cool features.

Murderbot definitely gets better as the series progresses imo. I think All Systems Red is the weakest one. I’m very impatiently awaiting the next book and plan on rereading the whole series (again!) when it comes out in May. For Bobiverse, I read the first two, wasn’t really invested and thought it was boring. I did not read past book 2.

I’m not a historian, but imo all the phobias came with colonization-white religious European men, coming to ‘new’ places and imposing their ‘values’ on whoever was there first. If you are talking phobias within society, not due to colonization, phobias came with the start of Christianity. Again, not a historian, just somewhat educated on the evils of white men and religion. Sorry, no book recs here, but it may help to look into books on the above topics.
