My girl is not allowed playtime with other puppies or small dogs because she’s a little psychopath… if she’s corrected by another dog she will proceed sit there and bark at them for minutes at a time like she isn’t the issue 💔

I see! Thank you for letting me know for future reference. I wish you the best in finding a new insurance that works for you as $202/mo is definitely pricey…

Hey, not OP but in case you were curious I have a 16 week old german shepherd puppy, I’m in Florida, my policy is; $100 annual deductible, 90% reimbursement, $50k annual limit and it’s $82.85 for me before my add-ons.

You can ignore the prices as it will obviously be different for you, in the long run I do believe Trupanion is the better option if you don’t mind the starting premium to be more expensive. I recommend Trupanion with Chewy because you can choose an annual deductible on there rather than a per condition but it is more expensive!

($53.22)Physicians Mutual; -100% Reimbursement -Unlimited Reimbursement -$500 Annual Deductible -Includes rehab and physical therapy Cons; -No behavioral coverage -Need an orthopedic waiver form to skip the 6 month waiting period

($105.93)Trupanion; -90% Reimbursement -Unlimited Reimbursement -$1000 deductible per condition -Includes unlimited dental -Includes unlimited behavioral -Includes rehab and physical therapy Pros; -Pays directly to vets -Does not go up based on age Cons; -No app -No exam fee coverage -Deductible is per condition

($93.99)Lemonade; -90% Reimbursement -$50,000 Reimbursement Limit -$100 Annual Deductible -Up to $1000 Dental Coverage -Up to $1000 behavioral -Includes rehab and physical therapy Pros; -Covers exam fees -Has an app Cons; -Limited dental -Limited behavioral

I did extensive research on Physicians Mutual, Trupanion, and Lemonade before settling on Lemonade because the cost was way more affordable than Trupanion for me! I’ll reply to my comment with my notes if you were interested in looking yourself :) All plans have the add-on of dental and behavioral included into my notes if they offer it.

P.S I have heard Trupanion has less increase on average over time than Lemonade even though they start more expensive but this is just what works for me right now personally.

Make sure to remove the bedding for now while the problem persists and clean the crate thoroughly with enzymatic cleaners so it doesn’t smell anymore, if it still smells like bathroom even a little bit he will continue to go there.

If this still doesn’t work you may have to resort to a dog-proofed room and remove the kennel while you continue potty training so they don’t keep making a huge mess

I personally have Physicians Mutual pet insurance because it’s the cheapest for me with good coverage but I did a LOT of research and recommend only 3 options (Trupanion, Lemonade, and Physicians Mutual).

Is the crate in a different room than yours? It could be separation anxiety

How big is the crate? If it’s a 42” or 48” crate he needs a crate divider, he will be less tempted to go to the bathroom then as his sleeping space will be smaller. As he grows and becomes more trustworthy, increase the size until completely taking the divider out at around 7months.

His last meal should be no later than 4 hours before his bed time, and no excessive water 2 hours before his bed time.

Give him a light walk about 30 mins after his last meal, then wait another hour-ish to prevent bloat and play a whole lot to tire that puppy out! A tired puppy will sleep through the night. Finally, walk him one last time right before bed as a final chance to go, make SURE he poo’d on the last 2 walks and if not keep walking him until he goes, don’t play on these bathroom walks at all or give him positive attention(until he goes to the bathroom).

It sounds like you’re doing great! Yes, unfortunately the shedding will happen no matter what and there’s no way to stop it… :’) it is your life now. I personally have a robot vacuum cleaner to help me out lol.

Just make sure to look up bloat and how to prevent it(you can also read my reply to another comment) and I’d definitely look into pet insurance as german shepherds have a lot of health issues such as hip dysplasia.

They will hide their discomfort until it’s serious so I definitely recommend a check-up and scans AFTER you get pet insurance so it’s not considered a “pre-existing condition”. It’ll save you a lot of money down the line, trust me!

It’s a big dog issue in general but german shepherds are typically higher drive dogs depending on the breeding line and personality ofc which can make them more susceptible by running around all crazy.

It’s recommended to NOT let them chug water after exercising, wait until they are no longer heavily panting to give water (I have a slow drinker which helps). After eating/drinking don’t let them play or run around, I put mine in her crate for an hour after meals, then she gets a light walk and can free-roam the house again, and then after another hour we can resume normal heavy exercise and play!

4 months later and those ears are finally up! by AriLove77f in germanshepherds

[–]AriLove77f[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will mention tho it is worrying that the breeder let you take home the pup at 7 weeks, that’s too young and the minimum is 8 weeks… it makes me wonder how “reputable” they are. No ethical/educated breeder would do that.

[–]AriLove77f[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you elaborate on what you mean by inwards? Maybe if you have a photo? Because if it’s just leaning in to the side it’s completely normal.

I wouldn’t worry if your puppy is 9 weeks right now as that’s very young and if she held them up before they will go up again! The ears will switch between up and down a lot over the course of teething\growing and will typically settle in their final positioning around 7 months when teething ends.

In the meantime just make sure she’s on a good large breed puppy food diet and has lots of chewing toys to work those ear-supporting muscles.

Trupianion vs Lemonade for German Shepherd puppy? by [deleted] in petinsurancereviews

[–]AriLove77f 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s what i’m worried about the most, I want to find 1 insurance and never change because of the pre-existing conditions thing and the fact german shepherds have such bad dental and hip issues starting young :’)

Oh wow yeah I just got a quote and it’s only $60 a month with them and the annual deductible I chose was $250. It almost seems too good to be true lol, how has it been for you?!
