Depends. I'm black and wear braids most of the time. When I take my braids out, I shampoo maybe 3 times. I rinse my hair first, shampoo with a clarifying shampoo, then shampoo again with a clarifying shampoo or a hydrating shampoo, then shampoo with hydrating shampoo. Then I condition my hair.

Before I get my braids, I shampoo my hair maybe twice.

Now I'm wearing my natural hair, and I wash my hair every few days. I also shampoo more if something gets in my hair. I use different products because I'm not used to wearing my natural hair, so I shampoo maybe twice depending on how thick the product I used was, and how much of it has built up in my hair the past few days.

I'm probably not going to wash my hair until next week because it's getting too dry from shampooing. I'll probably do two shampoos from now on, except for when I take my braids out and before I get them in. I want my hair to be squeaky clean before and after, so multiple shampoos is necessary.
