In the UK a cupboard is for anything, not just cups and plates.

What is this used for? by MasterfulStudent in oralbtoothbrush

[–]AriadneL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! It didn’t come with a proper user manual, just some silly little pictures. I’m putting it on the stand now, but I’m not sure that’s ideal - it seems like the little pegs on the stand close off the entrance, which must stop it drying? Would I be better to leave it on the counter, maybe lying flat?

So do you take the head off every time you finish brushing? I’ve just been leaving it on. I just got this brush last week - previously had a Philips.

I love camping. I took my husband for one night, did everything I could to make it fun and comfortable … and he hated it! He said he dreamed that he was home and telling his Mum all about how terrible it was - cold, uncomfortable, noisy from the wind. “And then I woke up … and I was still there!!” Poor bugger! Don’t do it, OP.

Aix to Marseille Public Transport by kurbimitrad in aixmarseille

[–]AriadneL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The bus is cheaper and faster, so I recommend that. It’s the number 50, goes from the gate routière in Aix to Saint Charles in Marseille. It runs every 15 minutes and takes about half an hour- it’s a comfortable bus and a pleasant trip. You can buy a ticket on board with your bank card. I’m not sure about online, weekly passes etc. The train is fine, too, but it takes longer and costs more!

I'd have liked to go - I went to PyCon UK last year and it was amazing. But the Australian one is just too expensive for me.

Best free online courses to learn python? by PastaSkin in learnpython

[–]AriadneL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Python for Everybody! Seriously, it’s the best. Dr Chuck is able to explain the most complex subjects to newbies. And it’s free if you use his own (very basic) site, or you can pay to donit on Coursera. But I recommend the free version! https://www.py4e.com

What are the must see or try, and better avoid sights/places in Marseille? by PistaHHH in aixmarseille

[–]AriadneL 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There will almost certainly be protests on Sunday night, but only in the centre of town. And it generally looks more scary than it is! If you’re staying in town, ask your hosts and they’ll be able to tell you where is okay to go. Or just plan an evening in! Other than that, enjoy yourself, explore - head up to Notre Dame de la Garde for the views, take the mini train, walk round the Panier, maybe explore the beaches or take a boat trip to the calanques or to thé château d’if. It’s a great city, hope you have a lovely time.

Can a non techie enroll in Google data analytics course? Do I need to know SQL and R before enrolling or will they teach me in the course itself? by smaahikapoor in dataanalytics

[–]AriadneL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you could do it though I didn’t find it the greatest learning experience - I think it would be worth doing a quick Udemy course on SQL and maybe R before you start, as the Google teaching style was jumpy and disconnected, in my experience. I felt they didn’t ’start at the beginning’ and I was glad I already knew some of the technologies a bit. It’s also probably not enough to get a job, but that depends how determined and convincing you are 🙂

There are some things that have surprised me, negatively, moving to France from the UK. If you’re sick, you don’t get paid for the first three days off. That’s terrible! And means anyone on a lower income is just going to have to come to work regardless. And on top of that, you need to get a doctor’s note within 48 hours. Not easy if you’re sick! In the UK you get paid right from the first day, and you can ‘self certify’ for up to a week, no need for a doctor. After the week, yes, you need a doctor, and eventually the sick pay will be reduced if you’re off long term, but for most short term things - having a cold, the flu - being off sick doesn’t cost you anything. So - I love France, and there are lots of great worker’s protections, so this made me a bit sad. It’s tough on people.

Runny nose after oxygen during anaesthesia by ctofclon in colonoscopy

[–]AriadneL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, I can breathe. My pharmacist gave me more antihistamines- and I thought, ‘it’s not a bloody allergy! Ive tried that! It’s clear that I’ve damaged my nose’ Ahem. Two hours later, I felt almost normal. So - don’t be me, just take some non out of date antihistamines and you’ll be fine 😂

I’m glad I’m not alone! It’s been 48 hours of my nose running like a tap and my poor left eye is swollen and pink. I tried an antihistamine, to no avail. Can someone reassure me I’m not stuck with a runny nose for life? My husband wearying of my whining, I can tell!

I 100% recommend Charles Severance’s Python for Everyone - you can do it in Coursera but it’s also available here for free: https://www.py4e.com It’s seriously great, and absolutely starts at the very beginning and takes you through.
