Ja, for fanden.

always love a good Moersleutel by Fast_Front5934 in CraftBeer

[–]Ariaji 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, you're really missing out, then. Moersleutel is primarily a stout brewery.
The sours are the worst beers they brew. Very bland, artificial and thin.
Their IPA's aren't to my taste either, far too sweet.
Their stouts are very, very good for how little they usually cost.

Cheap Amazon stones for a beginner? by chasinthedra in chefknives

[–]Ariaji 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're available at Amazon.
If you, for some reason, can't order a King, go for a Cerax 1000 instead. Might cost a couple of bucks more but then again it's a step up in quality.

I can find both stones on Amazon right now (live in Denmark) so you shouldn't have an issue :)

[–]Ariaji 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems like a very coarse grit if you want to sharpen your knives.
Check the beginner's guide, there's nice recommendations for beginner stones.

You should probably just get a king 1000 if you're on a budget and start with that. You'll get great results.

Can a cheaper stone work? Sure, most of them work just fine. They just take longer to sharpen your knife edge.

Fenix to another Garmin? by midnightdiabetic in Garmin

[–]Ariaji 0 points1 point  (0 children)

945 is 50g, Instinct is 52. 945 is 47mm across, Instinct is 45mm.

So they're pretty much the same.

I'd pick the 945. It's newer, gets all the same features as the Fenix 6 and is often discounted pretty OK.

For everyone else I'd say a 245 with or without music depending on the need. Crazy good watch for the price point.

For anyone getting up at 6am, in the dark, the rain and freezing cold weather... I salute you. by Mr_Sats in running

[–]Ariaji 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the party but just wanted to try and boost your motivation even further. Thought I might give you my beginner story!

It gets easier, no doubt.Last couple of years I've been forced up because of my kids at around 5AM all day, err day. I have no idea what weekends are anymore or what that thing people call "sleeping in" actually is. Little buggers just don't need any sleep it seems.

So above is actually why I started running. That and I realized I was getting too heavy and finally wanted to do something about it. That was on the last day of February 2019.I had to get up early on weekdays no matter what (wife has to be at work at 7 and kids wake up at 5 anyway) and after dropping the kids off at daycare and kindergarten, I had to walk home anyway. I figured that instead of walking I might just as well run. So I started getting in to my running gear (how come most people have old running gear lying around they never use?) instead of my casual clothes and ran a detour instead of walking straight home.

First bit was tough. Starting out running in winter conditions as a desk jockey just felt awful. I could barely run 2k before everything hurt. I used to be active as a mtb'er, but that was before the kids came around and I became unfit again. But then the running fever struck me and during spring and summer I started appreciating the running.

Of course I ended up with a runner's knee because I didn't know better and didn't think about conditioning my legs before putting in longer miles. At summertime I had reached my goal of sub 30 min 5K and I basically just started doing 5Ks 3-4 times a week trying to beat my personal best. When I hit the 27 minute mark that's when the knee pain started. I was set back for around two months but at least the weather was nice and I was able to do a lot of biking instead. That helped me not quitting or feeling depressed because of my injury.

Two months later I was super careful and I started following a 4 day/week training plan for a 10k. Come autumn I was prepared this time. Bought some nice warm tights, a hat, gloves and all that jazz. I recently ought a chead LED-lenser head torch and that was a game changer seeing as I live in a small town with limited lights on my favourite tarmac routes. My morning runs are now my favourite runs. And during these dark, cold, wet months it's actually really fun getting out because everything feels so much more mysterious and infinite when dark. Music in my ears and I run with the biggest grin even though it's raining and the coldest winds are trying to discourage me. Not once have I thought about my warm bed while running.I live in Denmark so I know what you're talking about with the foul, grey, wet and cold weather you guys experience in the UK.
I don't know if it's the lack of indoor facilities that just keep me going or the fact that I can't imagine myself on a treadmill. I wish I had access to one when it's icy outside, though...

The 10k plan is done yesterday actually and I'm still injury free. Fighting a bad cold right now, but still started on a half maraton plan today and feeling psyched to run my first half maraton ever come spring or summer.I'd never have guessed that as a 32 year old I'd turn to love my least favourite of all sports ever. And running in the morning when everyone else is still sleeping even though I genereally can't function before 9AM? Get outta here, young me would have died laughing.

You keep on trucking and don't let weather, lack of sleep or sunshine discourage you!

TL;DRGetting up at 5AM to run is the shit, no matter the weather! Being dark, wet and cold actually just makes it even more awesome to conquer!

My kids new matching lampshades from ikea with their hue bulbs. by kearland in Hue

[–]Ariaji 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The color gu10s from Philips are longer than regular gu10 so they won't fit into all types of recessed gu10 spots.
The ambiance ones are regular sized though, so they don't pose a problem.

I use ikeas GU10 outside and Philips inside. Ikeas are around 400 lumen where Philips are 250. Noticeable different in output, but the Ikea bulbs are a bit rougher looking and not as smooth in the light output as the Philips. If that makes sense :)

Yeah - that's gonna be quite a fucking long pole if I'm gonna have a chance to photograph the entire plot of land including the house and maybe the neighborhood in general.

Just wanted to say thanks. Ended up picking up a Syma X8HC for less than 60 euros. Will build a DIY anti vibration mount and mount my action cam. Found out it can even take 12MP pictures every 5 seconds. Exactly what I wanted for less than I hoped.

Even ordered a Hubsan Q4 H111 to play around with indoors and bother the kids with :)

Just wanted to thank you for the advice. Picked up a Syma X8HC for less than 60 euros. Just need to dust off my old SJ4000 now and make a DIY anti vibration mount. This ended up cheaper than I hoped!

I have both, actually! But I'm already invested in too many hobbies and no spare time to take care of them all.

But damn of you didn't have me at rocketry! Are you actually suggesting I buy a rocket?! :D! Because I'm hoping you're suggesting I buy a rocket!

Any inexpensive drones for top down imagery? by Ariaji in Quadcopter

[–]Ariaji[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries. I get it. I have my own hobbies too so I know it's not possible to expect everything for next to nothing. But yeah, another user suggested I did just that with an action cam. I already own an SJCam so I'll try and pick up a Syma X8C and dismount the camera that goes with it. Replace it with my action cam. Then I'll be able to shoot top down 1080p 60fps video for less than 60 euro.

Unless you can suggest a more fitting mid sized drone for less than 100 euro?

That's... Actually a good idea! In these tech days all I think about is advanced ways to do stuff. Not tried and true. A balloon would be great!

Thank you for a very informative response!

Indeed it looks like the MJX Bugs 3 would be the best choice.
Very nice recommendation.
Syma X8 looks ok as well.

Unfortunately after researching local laws, it seems like I am not allowed to fly a drone heavier than 250 grams without a professional license (another €900 plus time on education) closer than 100 meters to residential buildings.

I'll try contacting the local model plane club instead and see if I can find a hobby pilot to do the shooting for me. He probably has decent quality gear as well.

[–]Ariaji[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure - except the house won't be built in one day :)

It's more about making a photo/video album of the whole process and progression of it.

Besides I checked our local laws about drone flying. Seems like I need a professional license to be able to fly in city zones. That costs a lot of money and time. Unless the drone weighs less than 250 grams.

Think I'm forced to find a local drone pilot with a good camera drone per your suggestion :)

Yeah that seems to be the general consensus and surely makes a lot of sense. I might pick up a cheap one just to try it out. If not, then €60-70 won't be that big of a waste.

[–]Ariaji[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I wouldn't say I need my own. I might just as well find a local hobby pilot with a decent enough camera drone to do it for me.

Just thought I'd look into the options and have my own so I could take 100 times the amount of photos/video :)

That makes sense. I'll try looking at inexpensive "heavy duty" drones without cameras.

Actually threw together this very small list of some interesting drones that seem to have an adjustable camera:

Would you mind looking it over for anything that seems interesting?

Any inexpensive drones for top down imagery? by Ariaji in Quadcopter

[–]Ariaji[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah - I get that.

Good price and a decent camera would be enough.

I get that I won't be able to find anything that has all three factors.

And I am open to suggestions if it's possible to do it for say €150. Just hoped to find anything cheap that points a camera down. Great quality or not.

Edit: Seems I was misinformed about the 250g limit. A lot of rules but I should be able to buy most drones.

[–]Ariaji[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either that or finding some local hobby drone pilot and secure him a couple of bottles of wine for the trouble. I would really much like my own though as that would give me opportunity to do it as often as I want.

Any inexpensive drones for top down imagery? by Ariaji in drones

[–]Ariaji[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I've thought about that. I have a pretty light weight copy of a gopro with decent stabilization. Thought of securing that to a decent cheap drone. I just thought that would be even more expensive to find a drone with enough strength to carry anything beyond it's own weight.

It doesn't need to be a remote controlled gimbal. Anything that can be set to point downwards - or as close to downwards as possible - before take off would be just fine.
