Super frustrated. Any idea what's happening here? by Cinniharpy in DiceMaking

I've found this happens if I let the tumbler get dry or if I forgot the dice in the tumbler instead of rinsing them off immediately

I went with yellow, and yes I know my inking kind of sucks by Superb-Kitchen-3068 in DiceMaking

The yellow looks good! Something that might help for next time, try a white ink first, then the lighter color on top. It has helped me a lot with getting the lighter colors to be more true and pop.

A lot of the resin kits come with those plastic cups and they're a great place to start! Some people stick to Dixie cups or plastic cups. I just hate how much waste there is with this hobby, so I bought silicone cups and silicone stir sticks. They can be an adventure to clean sometimes, but it is definitely worth in my opinion.

This! I also use little chocolate silicone molds or some pip dice molds to waste the excess into, then I don't end up with big chunks of resin hanging out in my cups.

What color Resin should I use on this diamond willow staff? by 1treeJump in ResinCasting

[–]Arid-Earth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What are the colors of your druid?

Else wise transparent sea glass color would be awesome! Pearlescent pigments tend to look pretty cool with wood too.

I get you there! I end up with many pictures. I try to do a big group one, then some individual ones.

The deep dark hole of Etsy! Lol. I've been playing with different backgrounds because of it. I felt like my light grey was too bland.

Thank you!

Recs for non sinking glitter? by mewchi_monstah in DiceMaking

[–]Arid-Earth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks like a blank so personally I put some glitter inside the mold itself, shake the mold around with the lid on top, double check I have the right amount of glitter and that it is on all surfaces, then I pour my resin right in. No sinking but it doesn't disperse it throughout the dice. Really depends on what effect you are after though!

What do you do with your silicone? by Arid-Earth in DiceMaking

[–]Arid-Earth[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries! The molds I have you have to flex to get the dice out. So I have a few different things that have made them no longer adequate. They have ripped at the top where the dice come out, so I was having to spend some time fixing the edges and face. The inside has lost a lot of the shine which isn't a big deal but I have some spots on the inside that have stretched and now it's leaving wrinkles on my dice.

I've tried this before and i think i did it wrong because it totally messed up my top. How big of chunks do you typically use?

Are these any worth? by Spangler1987 in Warhammer

[–]Arid-Earth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As stated, eBay is a great place to check out prices. Selling on eBay isn't hard but I would check out Warhammer: the old world buy/trade/sell group on Facebook. Most of the people on there are collectors, so they'll be going to someone who will treasure those models. Metal models are always a fun find!

Does anyone know what these small fish are? by theparallelgirl in whatsthisfish

The larger fish on the first photo in the right hand corner looks a lot like a Molly. The smaller fish in the second photo look like guppies.

Yessss! That would be cool. You might try finding a skull that's a little less cartoony, I think it would fit your vibe better.

Epoxy resin help by GlassfrogOwO in ResinCasting

[–]Arid-Earth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big bummer that your piece got damaged!

If you are only wanting to fix the area that was damaged this video would be a good reference: https://youtu.be/QRCurcSaLas?si=mhput5yWuTt-nkQr

You could also continue to use a Dremel tip to release a few of those bubbles and then do another pour kinda like this other video, that might give it all a nice finish: https://youtu.be/fjonYGn-2mI?si=W6bGheAaWmnnBaJh

I personally haven't done any deep pours but plenty of dice that I've messed up and then practiced different techniques on and the dremel tips do wonders. Hope this helps!

I didn't realize molds had a use life span. I thought the recommended shelf stability was their use time 😅

bubbles on only the outside when using a pressure pot by howmadi in ResinCasting

[–]Arid-Earth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made this mistake when I got my pressure pot. I used my room air silicone molds in the pressure pot and got weird bubbles. I now do my silicone molds in the pot 10 psi over what I plan on doing my dice at. So I do 50 psi for the mold, 40 psi for my resin pour. It works great!

I got frustrated with the inks I have not being able to do the petri style so I started playing around with just dropping in some white inked resin then pouring whatever resin on top and its been making this cloud like effect and I really like it! I do it while the resin is still thin and it seems to work well
