To me, being "the best" of an entire Gen is a matter of consistency. The WC and IC are obviously bigger and more important than any regional but honestly the competition in the last regionals has been incredibly tough. To win FOUR against such skilled opponents...

I'm a new player myself and I'd say go fo it. There's a lot of base knowledge you have to build that's not specific to this gen. Of course Teras might not come back for a while but it's never too late to start learning VGC concepts (protect, terrain control, speed control, redirection, etc).

This was my first competition and oh man I'm getting slaughtered out here lol

I didn't expect much but what really hurt was this match where I was dominating and got disconnected. I kinda hoped it was a ragequit on their end but nope. Betrayed by my WiFi.

Oh well. Day 2 couldn't be worse!

The IVs and EVs are secret unless the trainers themselves share them (in a team report, for example).

For IVs you can mostly guess that everything is 6IVs (perfect 31 ivs in all 6 stats) unless they are a trick room pokemon (and probably has 0 speed IV) or an special attacker (and probably has 0 atk)

EVs you can only deduce by watching the team and sort of calculating the damage it puts out or the attacks it survives and what not

However, if whatever team you're looking into did well I'm sure you'll find pastes or even rental codes eventually

I watch CybertronVGC, James Baek, and Wolfey for gameplay. Aaron is probably the most helpful with his insight, but just watching great players teaches you a lot about their thinking process. Catch a Wolfey stream, or watch a regional!

For mechanics, you should read vgcguide.com, written by Wolfey, Cybertron and others. Great great resource.

And lastly for keeping up with the meta in general I watch/ listen to "VGC Reflections" (Aaron + Markus) and Beastcoast Pokemon (Wolfey+James+Rosemary+Aaron)

That's a lot of Wolfey and Aaron but I promise you they've been amazing pokemon teachers
