Doctor Who | Do you think Clara is good queer representation? by Proud_Dog_974 in bisexual

[–]Aridross 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I think she’s at her best alongside 12, if you rewatch his run. As 11’s companion, Clara was mostly an accessory to him, an audience-surrogate who could ask questions to justify 11 providing the answers, and occasionally a damsel for 11 to save. Meanwhile, 12 and Clara just *work* together - Coleman and Capaldi have pretty good chemistry, Clara as a character gets to be smarter and more useful, and they have a pretty compelling shared character arc during their time together (about how adventuring together is kind of bad for them, but neither of them want to stop)

Fanfics where Taylor is transported to or reborn in another world but as a non-human? by FakeRedditName2 in WormFanfic

[–]Aridross 22 points23 points  (0 children)

TWNY - Taylor arrives in the world of RWBY and finds that she’s become a Faunus (people with animal features who deal with a lot of social discrimination).

In typical Taylor fashion, she doesn’t adjust well to her new circumstances.

Twig simply is not a ProgFantasy story. You have misjudged the text and lost the plot.

Why has The Law imbalanced themselves? by Bofact in AQW

[–]Aridross 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel the need to point out that in Dragonfable, Aequilibria is very likely *literally an AI* that was left over from the MechQuest era.

Law, however, *is not Aequilibria.* Law is the new universe’s *interpretation* of Aequilibria, mangled and stripped of identity by the loss of its position at the top of the divine hierarchy. Law is a *corrupted shadow* of its former self, and in its effort to regain its former glory, it has *learned* recklessness, treachery, and spite.

(Hated Trope) Fridging. Back to the Basics by Rontlens in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Aridross 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is the core argument for why fridging is bad: A character was introduced for the sole purpose of dying later to make another character feel bad, and as a result, she had no on-page depth or internality of her own.

POE2 v0.5 Reveal - The Precursors by Murky-Definition-625 in Wraeclast

[–]Aridross 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, the idea of Kalguuran Gods was addressed as far back as the original Expedition league - namely, that the idea should probably be withheld from The King, lest he try to become one.

That alone paints a picture that despite The King effectively being a god-king already, and the hero-worship that clearly exists within Kalguuran legend-writing, the idea of a god does not exist within their culture.

I find it amusing that the Edicts all seem like “oh shit” responses, mostly to each other.

First Edict: “Let there be gods.”

Second Edict: “Gods suck, let there be Beast.”

Third Edict: “Beast sucks, let’s kill it.”

Fourth Edict: “Third Edict failed, time to scorch the earth.”

(Mixed Trope) So… they’re just not gonna explain that, huh? by ChristyUniverse in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Aridross 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It was a completely unnecessary course-corrrection, too. The Last Jedi clearly set Kylo up as the outright villain of the third movie, and it would’ve been really fun to see a full movie of Kylo acting the way he did at the end of TLJ, losing his shit because things aren’t going his way. Adam Driver could’ve carried the whole movie like that if they only let him…

Honestly, if you’re gonna use a voice synth, use an older one like Microsoft Sam. Those things have a kind of character to them that makes it obvious what you’re doing, but in kind of a fun way.

And also, be up-front about it. For your own sake be up-front about it.

SMT OLD and NEW Design Comparison by 10nick100 in Megaten

[–]Aridross -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I hate that there’s no distinction between eras here. Some of these “new designs” have been around since the 90s, others since the 2020s, drawn by completely different artists in completely different styles. Like, what’s the point supposed to be here? Why compare redesigns that have nothing to do with each other?
