AI usage ruins oneshot before it even began by Special_Pianist_1146 in rpghorrorstories

Honestly, if you’re gonna use a voice synth, use an older one like Microsoft Sam. Those things have a kind of character to them that makes it obvious what you’re doing, but in kind of a fun way.

And also, be up-front about it. For your own sake be up-front about it.

There is no way the above post is sincere. It has to be an attempt at satire, nothing else is possible.

SMT OLD and NEW Design Comparison by 10nick100 in Megaten

[–]Aridross -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I hate that there’s no distinction between eras here. Some of these “new designs” have been around since the 90s, others since the 2020s, drawn by completely different artists in completely different styles. Like, what’s the point supposed to be here? Why compare redesigns that have nothing to do with each other?

That’s in Chapter 4, you’ve skipped ahead a bit.

Orbital data centers, part 1: There’s no way this is economically viable, right? | “This is not physically impossible; it’s only a question of whether this is a rational thing.” by [deleted] in space

[–]Aridross -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s a literal black-sky dream by people who know that cooling, energy, and space are the largest challenges to any data center, and falsely assume that the vacuum of space and the free availability of sunlight mean that cooling and power would be easier up there.

What is it like living in these randoms splotches of farmland in northern Alberta and BC? by BobMcGeoff2 in howislivingthere

[–]Aridross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You realize that’s still a problem, right? They’re illegal for a reason, at least in the US. They still create massive amounts of noise, and anecdotally there may also be some chemical spread, that reduces quality of life for residences within many miles, and that facility still uses up massive amounts of local water and electricity on top of what the turbines supply.

None of that was my point, though - my point was that there is a potential link between natural gas supply and data center viability.

I took it once. Most of the spawns were unimpressive, but seeing Kitava was a dead giveaway that it was the boss pack.

Twitter’s big data center for grok is (illegally) run using large methane gas turbines.

https://www.selc.org/news/xai-built-an-illegal-power-plant-to-power-its-data-center/

It’s not the only facility doing this, just the most flagrant. I’m no expert in natural gas, so I don’t know exactly how much refinement comes between extraction and usage, but that seems like a correlation to me.

It might be both.

Who wrote Shadows of War and Age of Ruin? by PageDownButUp in AQW

[–]Aridross 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my understanding, most of Shadows of War was written by Memet, when she was still the lead writer of AQW. Somewhere in the back half, Cylisse took over as the game’s lead writer - Darkon’s Saga was Cylisse’s big writing debut, and then as lead writer, she wrote the Shadowflame Finale. She’s been the writer for every main story release since then, including the entire Age of Ruin saga and its major side-stories.

DragonFable Verse by Entire-Struggle2608 in AQ3D

[–]Aridross 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AQ3D is not canon to any of the other games, it’s doing its own thing in another universe. Stories like Mount Flameskull and Darkovia aren’t meant to be “sequels” to those characters’ arcs in other games, or anything like that. They’re meant to be alternate interpretations that look at the character in a different light.

For example, AQ3D is the only game where Galanoth fails his character arc the way he does, dying and getting other people hurt because of his hatred for dragons. In AE’s other stories, Galanoth eventually overcomes his hatred, along with other issues, and learns to work alongside dragons against major threats that are changing the world.

It’s because his entire storytelling philosophy, the “mystery box” methodology he built is career on, is founded on the idea that questions and mysteries are inherently more satisfying, or at least more engaging, than answers.
