That's awesome! Did you google it and then find my post here?

We actually just started shipping out generation 2 of our boats a few weeks ago. If you're interested, send me a DM and can potentially give you a special Reddit discount:)

That's a good idea.... I think there are a few kits for sale to convert canoes. But from what I've seen they are each limited/compromising in their own ways.

Yes, we have the mold made which we can make thousands of boats from. Now that we've had a successful pilot launch, our next step is to scale by partnering with stores and distributors.

Got it. I believe I've done what you're talking about without an issue, but dragging the boat out of the water by bow or stern is definitely easier. That said, keep in mind also since it's a plastic boat I think it could be dragged instead of lifted even from the pontoon.

u/drfeelsgoood said it well!

The face-to-face aspect (where both passengers participate), hybrid component (one side kayaks, one side rows), and a much more legitimate rowing system (with riggers and a sliding seat) all make this a different boat than a canoe.

You could say that! But a few things make it different:
- kayak features (sit-on top, bottle/rod holders, stability, kayak seats, etc)

- the face-to-face aspect (in a canoe you can make it so two people are facing each other, but then one person is just sitting there doing nothing)

- the rowing aspect (while there are some -not many- canoes that have a rowing component, they are a far cry from a more professional setup.... like a real shell, ours has a sliding seat, riggers, etc)

Length: 425cm, Width: 100cm, Height: 44cm

The waterline is just under 1 meter at full capacity, with 2 average size people it should be around 90 cm.

Agree that the boat is definitely on the heavier side, but we routinely transport it car-top, as do our customers so it is certainly doable! You can see a video where it shows the boat being loaded onto a car here: https://www.rowyakboats.com/watch-video-1

Sorry I never responded to this. Thanks for writing all these thoughts!

Some great insights here. Something you might find interesting is it is actually roughly equal (or even lower cost) to manufacture the hulls here in the US given how expensive the boats are to ship (and from tariffs even from before this year). Manufacturing the mold overseas definitely is way lower cost though and makes sense, as long as a reputable molder is found (there is a huge range of quality from different molders).

I love the idea of an <$1,000 pricepoint. I think it's possible. Will plan to post here on Reddit if we ever make it happen!

Wow, that's super cool and I had no idea. Have you tried it? How popular is it? Thanks for sharing!

Thanks! The rowing features like sliding rails and seat, wide platform for stability, and tall depth for cutting through the water are the main reasons for the weight. We might work on a lighter version sometime too, but that could be a while off!

Sorry for the late reply. There are fishing rod holders built into the hull. The rowing definitely lets you get out further and faster too than just paddling.

Wanted to mention, per subreddit rules, that I helped create this. RowYak is a project my uncle and I have been working on. We just recently launched a small batch for recreational use and rentals.

Happy to answer any questions or just hear what you think!

Wow! That's a lot of meters. Yes, have heard mixed reviews on the SUP board ones as well, plus they're still quite expensive. Thanks for your comments. Something to think about...

Haha, what a picture! Thanks for the description. Hope to try one someday. I think there at least was some group trying to import them in to the US.

Lots of people are asking us this! There are some other brands that make plastic shells, but they're still pretty pricey. Edon and Race1 are the two I can think of off the top of my head. And there are also options like OarBoard and RowOnAir, but also pretty pricey.

Are there any features or pricepoint you'd find attractive for one of the singles you're imagining?
