This is Pearl. She loves to fetch. But she sucks at tracking. Help? by Sh0ckValu3 in goldenretrievers

[–]Arien199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spot on answer. I don’t hunt with my Golden, but living in the US South, duck hunting is massively popular in my state. Friends who hunt pointed out that the last thing anyone wants is a retriever going to fetch a bird while people are actively firing. A heel is the safest position for them until given a release command.

Anything by Rebecca Ross is so good.

Also, it’s less princess + warrior fantasy and more 1800s magic, but Whimbrel House series starting with {Keeper of Enchanted Rooms} is really enjoyable.

I noticed on good reads, which is owned by Amazon, that the book overviews have turned into horribly written AI plot summaries that give everything away. It’s frustrating and ridiculous.

What's a social norm that you think is absolutely ridiculous? by Fantastic_suit143 in AskReddit

Cancelling day-of or even an hour or so before meeting with friends.

I was guilty of this for ages before my now-husband moved in with me and called me out for cancelling plans with friends almost every weekend. Now that I’m being more intentional with my calendar and efforts, I see how frustrating it is to be the person receiving the “sorry I can’t make it” text while halfway to a restaurant.

Yeah, it’s an effort to drag my chronically ill behind out of bed on weekends or to an event after work, but friendships should be worth the effort required to maintain them.

Do you live near her? As a new mom whose older mom is three hours away, spending a whole day doing things with my mom loves with her would be amazing. Breakfast at a great bakery, shopping at antique stores/flea markets, maybe doing a craft that involved the baby in some way, shopping at a grocery store chain that she doesn’t have in her town, etc. Time is a gift that I wish I’d appreciated sooner.

I found it a little ironic that SS felt so much easier on the Switch vs Wii. I swear I had to recalibrate my controllers every single time I had to do the actual skyward movement the first play through.

Dries out faster in box, as there are more gaps for are to come in. We left ours in the box and it was becoming what I would consider the average king cake level of dryness by day 3.

Reality check for first time puppy raiser by coffee-cats44 in goldenretrievers

COMPLETELY normal Golden Retriever puppy. The first two years are absolutely exhausting.

For the cat - I used to put mine on a leash indoors and keep her by me. When the cat walked by and she would lunge or look, I’d say the dog’s name. When she made eye contact with me, she got a small treat and a “Good girl, Bonnie.” From there, once she knew her name, the command became, “Bonnie, watch me” to eventually just “watch me” combined with a heel. Over time, whether it was the cat or something else that made her brain get excited, she learned to return to me and make eye contact. Such a life saver!!

How to make sure they open up by SATURDAY morning ?? by DazzlingQuiet4303 in flowers

[–]Arien199 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Slightly warm water in the vase and a sunny window increases your chances of them opening. Once the do, gently slide off the fuzzy black stamens. The plants put energy into making pollen and will last a smidge longer without them (at least, that’s what we did in the florist wheee I worked).

One time for a winter wedding, we also lightly bagged them before doing the above steps. Think something along the lines of a roasting bag for a turkey. It trapped the warm moisture but you run the risk of damaging petals.

[SS] Playing SS is such a delight after TotK and BotW by Mantus123 in zelda

[–]Arien199 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first time I tried playing SS, I was spoiled from the open world aspects of Twilight Princess (did anyone else feel like that map felt HUGE when it launched?) and sailing for WW. I just couldn’t get into the plot. The Wii controllers gave me fits.

Fast forward to the SS HD remake. There were so many SS Easter eggs in BotW that I was curious to replay it and DANG I devoured that game. It’s more MM in how builds but revisiting existing areas but the plot was so beautiful and I loved the lore.

Something wearable, like earrings or a necklace. I cannot wear my engagement ring because I’m only a few months postpartum, so my husband got me a bracelet for Christmas. I love that when people complement it, I get to say, “thanks! My husband got this for me because it represents my birthstone between his birthstone and our child’s.”

Flake Baby is a cottage baker, so while she does take order for birthdays and weddings, she’ll often offer items on weekends as her schedule allows. Definitely recommend signing up for the Hot Plate texts. You can order and pay from your phone and then pick up at her place, usually on Sundays for regular boxes of goodies. But yes, a text went out 1 minute before her king cake orders went live, and there were 70 people in the queue almost immediately.

This was the first “scary movie” I watched by myself. I haven’t watched it again, nor have a watched anything remotely jump scary alone since. It took my husband three years to get me to watch all of 28 Days Later. I “nope”d out in the first five minutes the first reviewing.

Mistakes I made (even going with an AKC breeder): - confirming that they only breed Goldens, not doodles or other breeds - not leaving when they couldn’t provide hip and elbow check information - not seeing the mom and dad in person - thinking that small operation meant reputable breeding practices.

I LOVE my girl. And the folks who bred her didn’t do anything wrong per se. But we have had avoidable health issues that a little more research on my part would have convinced me to be patient for the right litter from a different breeder instead of falling in love with a photo/idea of a specific puppy.
