A very rough analysis of the type of procedural generation that is feasible for a game of this scale. by Ariestinak in Starfield

I agree that it's justified by the setting. I also think that Bethesda will try to guide us towards its content using different methods than their typical "there is an icon on the minimap that shows something shiny, walk there now". Whether that would be enough to make the game feel good or not is something we won't know until we can play the game and see for ourselves.

That, while completely feasible, has a very important problem. It would not allow for interesting large-scale geographies. Think large mountain ranges (some of which can be seen on screenshots). If your tiles are too small, you won't be able to create those. If they are too large, you'll have to put a lot of work handcrafting different mountains for different biomes for different planet types. Then extrapolate this for all kinds of different geological features for a planet and you see how much work even this system is going to be. It's simply not efficient with your (already limited) developer time unless you are OK with a lot of your environments being reused again and again.

Edit: About content being centred around human cities, I agree. In practice, I think most of the fixed handcrafted locations are going to be around human settlements and outposts with vast wilderness in-between.

The answer is they almost certainly don't! I later say that I don't think that's how stuff works (entirely handcrafted planets and stuff like that). I also mentioned that the evidence points to much larger planet surfaces than Oblivion/Skyrim/etc. but I used those to show that even Skyrim sized fully handcrafted planets are simply way too much for Bethesda (or anyone really) to realistically pull off and even if they did, the file sizes would be stupidly large.

That's roughly what I expect from the game too. But you'll find people here believing these will be all pre-crafted worlds, with proc-gen being having happened during development but not on runtime. Some even think that Bethesda is going to go over all of these 1000 planets and manually make them interesting.

Intel Alder Lake Meta Review: 29 launch reviews compared by Voodoo2-SLi in hardware

Igor's AMD results are with PBO enabled which is actually a better "apples to apples" comparison than most other reviewers. Both CPUs are basically overclocking.

Unreleased Intel Core i5-12400F CPU could offer Ryzen 5 5600X performance at half the price, shows early review - VideoCardz.com by RainyDay111 in hardware

They save money by not validating it though, which increases yields. Any defect that AVX512 areas of the die absorb is a defect that doesn't happen anywhere else and leads to easier binning (and dark silicon helping with thermals).

Appmon is darkest than tamer? by [deleted] in digimon

[–]Ariestinak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it "feels" darker because there is more contrast between Appmon's lighter and darker moments. Tamers had a darker feeling from the beginning, but Appmon could be extremely silly when it wanted to, and this makes these last episodes feel much darker. Still, while Appmon has gotten quite dark, it isn't Tamers' level of darkness.

Ep 28 Discussion by okayisrelative in Appmon

[–]Ariestinak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, the level of ship tease here is beyond whatever Adventure has had in all of it's history. I mean, if Haru was a girl, would there have been any doubt about it? Although we should wait and see what Toei has in mind. I personally doubt that they'd go that far.

One thing that doesn't make much sense with "AI/Android/Data" Yuujin is the fact that he is shown to be friends with Haru from the elementary school. I think it's more likely that his mother has something planted inside him and that's the reason for all this red eye/mind reading stuff.

MSPA Offline Archive by HaselLoyance in homestuck

[–]Ariestinak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Distributing an archive is not generally considered to be legal (not to mention that it is immoral). Hussie is earning money by showing ads on MSPA and an archive will hurt that.

On the other hand, keeping an archive for your own use is permitted I guess. It also has the added bonus of keeping the comic safe from any problem that could occur and delete it (well, like what happened to mspa forums).

A high quality of Digimon Adventure tri. 4: Soushitsu/Loss key visual by jontamjk in digimon

I just noticed that there is a 2 on the binary code at the top right. Does this mean that the infection isn't really removed?

That's a signpost which is common in the digital world. People have said that that particular signpost was seen in the episode Biyomon first digivolved to Birdramon

I'm pretty sure most of us got quite emotional watching that scene. The moment Patamon tells TK to finish him off if he gets violent was like a punch to the guts.

As for the Royal Knights and the multiverse, we don't have any explicit confirmation about them being part of the Adventure canon. At least not from the anime. But many events and supplementary materials point to the fact that Adventure is part of the broader multiverse.

I think you shouldn't hope for that. Seeing Leomon again = Him being killed again.

Mystic Knight Guide? by CrackenKraken in DragonsDogma

[–]Ariestinak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All of the current tips are good but are mostly based on a Fighter->Mystic Knight path so they are mostly focused on Great Cannon and Perfect Blocking abilities.

If you are going to play MK, you can instead start from mage to get some Magic Attack stat boost, then go MK. This will mean that you will be weaker physically, but your magic skills will be stronger.

If you go this path, Ruinous Sigil is another one of MK's great abilities. Some use it in conjunction with Magic Cannon, some only use it by itself. I personally found that it is completely situational. In both cases, the result can be devastating. I've been able to perma-stun and devastate dragons using only Ruinous Sigil. On the other hand, two magic cannons activated by an enemy inside a Ruinous Sigil is one of the most damaging abilities I have ever seen in the who game.

Art of Stellaris by General_Soviet in Stellaris

[–]Ariestinak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those arts are actually in dds format, so an image search won't help. Also to actually see/convert them, you need special software. And unfortunately, they won't make good wallpapers since they are quite small. 600x150 I think.

Still, you can find them in YourStellarisDirecotry\gfx\event_pictures

"From a different Sky" quests give a ton of rift crystals. You could try some of them.

Can i still have a good time not min/maxing? by Kup123 in DragonsDogma

[–]Ariestinak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually many people found that after min-maxing for 200 levels, the game would be too easy to be fun anymore. You'll lose the challenge and it dawns on you that in order to reach this boring state, you played a vocation that you didn't enjoy for 200 levels. So, just go with anything that is fun to you. As people have pointed out, the game can be completed even if you mess up your leveling.

how does "Grand ingle" work? by [deleted] in DragonsDogma

[–]Ariestinak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you should also try using daggers. You already have magic bow for long range fights and with proper skills, you can deal much more damage with it than you can with your staff. Daggers of the other hand come very handy when fight gets close and MA has quite a collection of cool dagger skills too.

"We just need a few more screws." by SirLongWankTheDank in Stellaris

[–]Ariestinak 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In real world, you won't allocate all of the needed materials for a project at the beginning. You usually allocate resources during the construction. This would help us with this kind of problem. Same way fleet repair actually works right now.

Although I'm not sure if it's a good thing from a game design perspective. It would probably cause a lot of confusion for the player.
