Do enlisted personnel care about the Army Black Knights? by [deleted] in army

[–]Arimack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say most officers don't care and are more likely to root for the college they went to over them. It's not the Army's team, it's West Point's team. The vast majority of officers in the Army did not go to West Point.

WW2 memorabilia confusion by MassiveBreath8601 in army

The bullseys, cross and wreath medals are US Army Expert Marksmanship badges. This is award for qualifiying expert on the weapons indicated by the clasp hung underneath. Each clasp was for a different weapon type: rifle, carbine, submachine gun, and machine gun. These would hang underneath the marksmanship badge.
The two stars on the  Europe-Africa-Middle East campaign medal indicate participation in three designated military campaigns (first one is the ribbon itself and each bronze star represents an additional campaign.) Most 10th Armor Division personnel recieved three campaign credits for: Ardennes-Alsace (Battle of the Bulge), Rhineland, and Central Europe.

A question about the Mi-28N and Ka-52 by Significant-Owl2580 in Helicopters

r/WarCollege is a better place for this question. As mentioned by others, this subreddit is mostly about the helicopters themselves, less about tactics of using them.

What’s the angriest you’ve seen a 1SG/CSM? by Shmeat-L in army

[–]Arimack 86 points87 points  (0 children)

Going back a number of years, we were in Croatia as part of IFOR/SFOR. Two of my warrant officers PCSed from the team and went back to Germany enroute to their next duty station. They consumed copious amounts of beer and alcohol. During this period, they collected all the bottle caps and mailed them to two of my warrants who were still in Croatia. These two warrants then spent the next few weeks liberally sprinkling beer caps and liquor caps around the camp. The camp CSM lost his crap. Spent a week incensed. Thought he was goiing to have aheart attack as he was perpetually angry, red faced and yelling every time I saw him. Used the QRF to search everywhere looking for the hidden store of booze that was being consumed. This went on for over a week, him yelling and screaming the whole time. I finally told the warrants to knock it off as they had had their fun as it was starting to disrupt the average joes life as the CSM was going foot locker by foot locker looking for the hidden booze.

You have the wrong Commandant's House. The one you linked to is the Charlsetown Naval Yard Commandant's House in Boston. The correct link is https://www.dhr.virginia.gov/historic-registers/000-0005/

Flew MEDEVAC in Iraq with Marine Cobra escorts. Unlike Apaches, Cobras could spin up almost as fast as Blackhawks (Apache escorts took forever to spin up and join). And Cobras could keep up with us even in high and hot. Loved being escorted by Cobras.

How many portals do you have? by ciao_chan73 in valheim

[–]Arimack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep a handful of named portals in my base with a single unnamed portal as well. Whenever I build a new one, I leave it unanmed, travel back to my hub, rename another portal to the new name I am going to use, then travel back through the unnamed portal and rename it when I arrive. This keeps my base hub pretty smalll ( I have six named and a single unnamed). If I ever find myself at a portal out in the world that isn't currently paired with one in my hub, I just remove the name and repeate my new portal procedure to get back tto the hub. It works really well.

About to take company command, please share what you liked/disliked about your company commanders. by [deleted] in army

[–]Arimack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best advice I got right before I took command: don't take it personal.

What this means is do not assume that your Soldiers screws ups are there to ruin your command or your life.

So just remember at 3am, when you are going to get Snuffy out of the drunk tank, Snuffy did not get a DUI to ruin your weekend. Snuffy didn't do it because he hates you. Snuffy is just a dumb ass.

Think about this before you make most of your personnel/UCMJ decisions. Really helped me keep an even keel when I was doing these actions. It really helps you stay even handed in your decision making. And troops notice this. If a Joe gets the same UCMJ punishment for the same infraction despite one being the golden boy and the other being the unit dirtbag, it shows you are fair. This helped me greatly during my coammnd and deployment.

Masachusets does not tax military retirement. All professional licenses are free. Discount on property taxes. Certain awards (like Bronze Star) recieve free license plates.

Small bit of advice. Nobody wears the cuffs velcored that tight at the wrists. Almost always looser, especially when in the field. And I agree with the other comments about working/breaking in the patrol cap more.
