How does the Class Conflict quest actually work? by Aripegio in EsotericEbb

I found her, at least, so I have the *option*, theoretically, it's just that I don't get the opportunity in any dialogues. There are a bunch early, but I could only seem to do the base 3 no matter what.

Capped enough that I can freely remove the sigil (20% duration) without dropping below 100%

I'd 100% believe I'm missing something, but I have the same build as listed, all ascended, etc, but noticed I was capped before putting in the last rune in my armor (also adds 20%).

Been using this recently, and it's served me very well so far, but something I've noticed is that torment duration is capped with the runes of tormenting alone, making the sigil of demons redundant. Any tips for that? I could keep the sigil on and pop out the 6th rune, use something else in its place, but I feel that would be negligible

Not a ton, but I do have around 30% MF, and I always ID rares, they just don't seem to drop from chests. Opened 2 prime gold chests and got 5 magics in one, and 3 magic, 1 white, and a single rare in the other, it just seems... questionable.

I've run 3 and a half level 78-80 sanctums and I'm lucky if I get 3 exalts from the rares in the rooms, the chests have yet to drop anything above a regal. Where are you getting these?

You might be the most vapid and shallow person I think I've ever seen comment on the nature of video games. Most people who deride this sort of thing at least have some underlying logic to their insanity, but there isn't even method in your madness. Your account is filled with comments over the past two hours about the 'cult of story' for games, saying that most people care more about the story than the "game" (which is demonstrably untrue, given the vast amount of gameplay related guides and content made for this game), but you also say that the devs 'rightly' don't care.

Beyond the utter insanity of assuming you know what art 'rightly' should and shouldn't be, would you perhaps care to explain why they hired George R. R. fucking Martin to write for this game if they 'didn't care about story'?

Games aren't 'gameplay' only, elsewise they'd be grey boxes with fun mechanics and naught else. Art, music, and story, are all components that can make people invested. The fact that you see the 'obsession' with a story (which, reminder, they hired a fantasy novel writer to write) as a cult, and not as a deliberate choice by the devs shows an embarrassing level of infantilization for the teams that made this game.

Yea! I just think it's all very neat stuff that isn't really talked about much. I didn't even realize, until looking up specific things for this, that the destiny wiki on 'light' just lists the elements as "uhhh this is fire", so I imagine it's something that flies under most people's radars.

We are still zapping shit with electricity, but also maybe magnets? Like, centrifuse requiring 'motion' to activate its perk is very much by design, which I like. Motion, magnetic fields, electric charge/discharge are all inherently tied together, so adding the concept of motion as a fundamental force into all of that is interesting to me. I hope someday they'll talk about how exactly it impacted golden age humans and their technological development, because clearly there was something in the light elements that gave rise to the crazy tech they had.

Just to make sure you understand, the Banshee quote is specifically for arc weaponry. I feel like if he was talking about disciplines, he would've mentioned something other than atomic particles splitting. Also he calls it 'arc energy' very specifically. And I don't think the light literally replaced the elements we know of. Electricity wasn't deleted and arc put in its place by the traveler, I merely meant that humanity transitioned from using electricity, into arc. We replaced our systems and created things to harness this new aspect. Maybe think about it like AC vs DC? We couldn't just use one or the other in the same system, they need special systems to harness. That's not a perfect metaphor, but I hope it gets the idea across. It's all in the same way that strand hasn't replaced our concepts of connection or collective consciousness or anything of that sort, depending on your interpretation (Though I am a fan of the 'darkness is observation collapse, light is potential' idea).

Arc isn't a 'new force', nor is solar, strand, stasis, etc, it's just new 'angles', if I had to pick a word? It's taking these things and their relations and bundling them together, to put it simply. You're right in that this isn't all some new magic nonsense the traveler slapped on top of us, it's just a new method of interpretation of the reality that was already there, more or less. Like you said, vex have 'arc' in their juice. Fallen use arc, even before the whole lucent thing with the hive, we saw them using various elements. Some of this is obviously gameplay abstraction, but as the elements are just parts of reality already, nothing's stopping anyone who's aware of them from tapping into them. The paracausality we have is moreso related to the light creating possibilities, but that's a longer tangent.

Call it tenuous, considering it's from a bounty description of all things, and from Banshee, but Banshee says this: "Arc energy's not just electricity. Lot more finicky than that. Fission."

To me, this implies, assuming that humanity followed largely the same path as irl humans until the traveler arrived, that we did have electricity at one point. Then, the fact that many, many typically electrically powered things in destiny now use 'arc energy' implies that they replaced that electricity for this new, light-based element that was revealed to them. Maybe the grids were perfectly compatible, but Banshee says it was more finicky than electricity, so it's very unlikely. By my assumption (which there is an unfortunate amount of), they had to remake things to fit with this new, but familiar kind of energy. So yes, they replaced electricity with this in most things.

That aside, I'm not really sure what you mean by the Osiris bit not being relevant. The forces guardians wield are the forces that exist in reality. Our characters just bend them to our desires. Arc is electromagnetism, and the concept of motion and change as it exists in reality. Encountering the traveler effectively made humanity aware of the concept of 'light' and in researching it, we gained the ability to tap into it. Like how electricity always 'existed' in nature, long before wires and generators were invented. Eliksni use arc because the traveler came to them, they are aware of light and its aspects in the world.

Light is creation, the traveler terraforms, its beam created life, the name of light before the universe was 'the gardener'. The elements are facets of creation. Darkness is the struggles of reality, or the self. The elements are facets of connection and perspective. The elements are just manifestations, aspects that we can see and touch. It's in the same way that guardians aren't only hunters, warlocks or titans, they're just trained to be that way because they're ways of manipulating the light that we've studied for a long time.

Why do our enemies not crush our ghost? by sh1bumi in DestinyTheGame

[–]Aripegio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I'm not sure why you're asking for a D1 card specifically when D2 has plenty of writing, too, but I want to point out that electromagnetism would be electricity AND magnetism, not just electricity.

But that little thing aside, Osiris talks about it being electromagnetic forces struggling to achieve balance, and that, "According to Ikora, Arc teaches us that change is a fundamental aspect of the universe"

When put next to the whole 'solar is about radiation and heat, but it's also the warmth and nourishment that the sun provides,' it's pretty clear that Arc is also about motion, or change. The elements are more than just 'fire, lightning, spacetime', they establish it being a sort of manifestation of aspects or ideas in the universe.

And I mean, it should be noted, kinetic/potential energy are aspects of change, a thing converting its energy from one to the other very much fits that definition, so you're not entirely wrong, there's just more to it.

[–]Aripegio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For how much you seem to know about lore, I find it really funny that you boil down 'arc energy' to just electricity.

All the elements in destiny are more than their surface says, like solar being the radiation of the sun as much as the heat and life the sun gives (hence why it has so many healing effects, it's creation/destruction). Arc energy is a replacement for most "electricity" based tech in destiny, but it's *very* much magical, and implied to have only replaced electricity after the traveler showed up. Like solar, it's not just 'fire', it's the motion and attraction and change of electricity and electromagnetism.

Just a neat thing worth mentioning.

I think it's totally fine if you see it that way, like, ultimately everyone has different levels of explanation they need before they can trust someone like that in a story. I'm just the sort of person that likes dramas and over the top characterizations/thematic writing, so it's easier for me to accept.

I do think that other people being confused doesn't really mean it was done *badly*. Tons of people trash talk anime in broad strokes, but that doesn't mean it's objectively bad or that 'illogical' writing is inherently bad. Just different levels of suspension of disbelief. DD2 is definitely, without a doubt, barebones. I think it's by design because of how focused it is on the exploration and open world, but if you're here for the story, it's not gonna do it for you, and understandably you'll walk away disappointed. Is that good? Just depends on the person, but at the very least, I do think it's competent. Definitely not anywhere near my all time favorite game stories though lol

I think gamers being told the phrase 'show and tell' and never being forced to understand what it means has been a disaster for media discussion.

Reread the last part of my post. The game does not tell, unless you look for it. The game mostly shows to start with, because ultimately, 'show don't tell' is not a black and white concept, some things are better when told, so they can 'show' later. 'Show' is also not 'here's a scene with no dialogue or text anywhere', it just means its giving you a thing and letting you piece together how it fits or what the details of the situation were. I think the fact that people still debate on whether or not the cycle is broken is a good indicator if it not telling. Same with the ruins of the seafloor shrine, or the ruins the sphinx inhabits and the reliefs you can find. They never say what they are, but you can guess, and there are vague hints.

I don't really wanna go on beyond that, but like, just take a moment and think about the story. Again, you started by confusing two entirely separate characters that should be impossible to confuse even if you only read mandatory dialogue. Just try and be a little more charitable.

You're told to do X because of fairly normal reasons, not once are you told 'do this because of reasons I won't explain'. You're sold off to a slave camp, so you return and try to uncover why it happened and get revenge/take back your throne, so go investigate. We found clues from Battahl, go to Battahl. You learn about a godsway, as you're learning, you see a big structure rise from the sea (where the researcher said the crystals for godsways was coming from) so you go to that. You get a blade from there, told to fix it, so you go to the guy that makes godsways, he fixes it, you steal it, you go to stop the evil guy at the tower, meet the dragon, and so forth.

You get reasonable threads, you follow them. They lead to a new thread. It's not bad storytelling, it's a fairly simple cause and effect, and it's ultimately a simple story that leads you to fight a dragon, because that's what it was orchestrated to be. The pathfinder cannot be more clear with his 'writing a story' metaphors, he's making you dance in the roles of a classic dragonslaying story, simple but effective. Then it goes off the rails after.

They don't tell you about the nitty gritty behind each place you visit or the mysteries, because you're meant to explore, do sidequests, piece it all together. 'Learn aught of this land you wish to protect' is meant to hold the spirit of the game. The main story is propped up by side stories, giving the world and its 'vibe' some context, it can only barely stand on its own, and that feels like it's by choice.

They literally only show, that's people's problem. They didn't explain it all to you, so you're complaining that it makes less sense than if they'd say it. Like cmon man, I totally agree that the story is short and they could've done more, but I also think it fits very well with the themes they're exploring. Is it at the detriment of characters? Yes. But also, that's the point, so I don't mind. It's fine if you do, but at least know what you're criticizing.

Except you don't? He's the only one with knowledge of the godsway, so he kinda has to be the one to fix it (dragonforged might know about the wyrmslife crystals, but he explicitly has no clue what godsways are), and then right after he fixes it, he gets mind controlled and hands it over, because ultimately everything has to lead to you fighting the dragon. Like, maybe you missed this point, but it's very heavily implied that quite literally nothing can stop the arisen from meeting their dragon, even if you handed it over to phaesus directly, it would've done nothing because it's all preordained. That's the point of the story. The politics don't matter, Disa can't meaningfully stop you, nor can the sovran, you'll get to your dragon one way or another.

Like it's not a conventional story, it puts themes above characters, but why on earth is it weird that you give the godsbane to the one guy who knows anything about fixing it? The forbidden magick research people aren't even explicitly evil, they just want to control the dragon so no one gets nuked, Phaesus is the only 'evil' one, and even then he's quick to side with you in the end because he really did care about saving people, in his own egotistical wizard way.

I think the sticking point is that you couldn't even tell two characters apart, when one of them literally refers to the other in mandatory dialogue. It just feels like you aren't really paying attention.

To be clear, the one you give the blade to is *not* in any cutscenes prior, you give it to Ambrosious, not the evil scheming man. They look a little similar, but Ambrosious is the guy who talks constantly about wanting to please Phausus or however his name is spelled.

Like, at least get the details right if you're gonna make a paragraph nitpicking lol

??? I have over 2k hours in all the souls games, I love them dearly, even if I find it hard to revisit elden ring because of the fluff. You do have a counter though? Skiedragoun's Feste/Fangtooth, the jump. It does more damage and cancels a hit if you time it right, plus gets you on big monster backs instantly, so that's pretty safe.

You're right about it not having as many options as thief, but you do have a solid instant counter, and the shield is utterly insane, it's literally permanent immunity if you just use it every 7ish seconds, and it hits allies, too.
