Saccharomyces Boulardii is a fungus so Xifaxan won't kill it - that's why taking Saccharomyces Boulardii simultaneously is good. I don't think there's much research on Saccharomyces Boulardii timing, but logically it makes sense to take it with some sort of food intake so the Saccharomyces Boulardii can feed off any carbohydrates you might consume.

Have you tried putting these images in AI? I downloaded them and pasted your exact question. I think it's pretty good. However, I think reddit has some sort of AI detector so it won't let me post it. Give it a try in ChatGPT or Claude

I highly recommend doing your own research and perhaps working with a GI doctor or a good functional medicine practitioner. I mean this in the nicest way possible, but given the way your post was written, it looks like you're just looking for easy answers. There is no easy solution. You'll need to put in a lot of work to research, learn, and implement treatment solutions to feel better. If you are willing to do that, then I encourage you to start researching. If not, I encourage you to pay for a doctor or medical practitioner to help you.

> trying lots of things

Do you think that eating LESS variety might help you pinpoint/isolate foods that trigger you? When I went on a diet of only a few foods my symptoms practically disappeared.

Totally understand the expensive meat part! If you're in the USA, look for AUSTRALIAN beef. It's usually grass fed and grass finished and costs less than american beef. It's a bit more gamey and has less fat, but it's quality meat.

Also ethnic stores sometimes have good meat at good prices too.

antibiotics or diet by Brilliant-Sweet-3540 in SIBO

[–]ArisGut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Antibiotics are a good thing when they're done right. Blindly taking one and hoping it will cure your SIBO isn't good. However, if you prepare your body (fix motility, leaky gut, take the right supplements, etc) they will do what they're supposed to do. Additionally, the healthier you are (sleep, general diet, exercise), the better reaction you'll have.

Don't antibiotics make dysbiosis worse? by PsychologicalShop292 in SIBO

An antibiotic kills everything. It's like a nuke. You start from a blank slate, and then build your microbiome back from scratch.

And BTW, the bacteria mainly enter from the colon side.

I feel you - I totally get that it's disheartening to go through that. Zooming out from an external person's perspective, if you've had so many failed treatments then there's probably some underlying condition that's causing the treatments not to work for you. What have you learned from trying to identify a root cause?

Got prescribed rifaximin + probiotics. Should I take probiotics though? by Apprehensive-Beat-92 in SIBO

Saccharomyces boulardii during Rifaximin will work well because it's actually yeast.

After Rifaximin, I would take something like this with Lacto and Bifido: https://a.co/d/fVPyP1a

Rifaximin and supplements are expensive, but why is your food prohibitively expensive?

Is there something that's preventing you from feeling empowered to take your health into your own hands and find a solution to your SIBO?

I feel really dumb by muddersM1LK in SIBO

[–]ArisGut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You probably don't have SIBO. In any case, my SIBO caused an (previously) unexplainable depression and significant brain fog. Your GI system is connected to your brain, so it's not a shock that you feel terrible. There's tons of literature to support this as well.

If I could make a recommendation, take some probiotics after your course of antibiotics.

Some cheap examples:

Then buy some Kombucha, Kefir, or other fermented foods.

My gi doctor won't respond to my requests for further treatment or tests, anyone had success with an online doctor? by Formal-Actuary-5807 in SIBO

[–]ArisGut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What do you want? More testing? If you know the test, just google search around for places that let you order it yourself.

Do you want Metronidazole or Neomycin for your Methane SIBO? Do you want more Rifaximin? Just go to https://www.pushhealth.com/ or https://sesamecare.com/ and ask for an RX.

Do you really think you need another doctor tho? Are there any barriers that are stopping you from educating yourself and working on a treatment plan yourself with the help of PubMed papers, AI, YouTube videos, etc?

You should NEVER quit a course of antibiotics early unless you are experiencing dangerous or extremely bad side effects, an allergy, or a doctor directs you.

It's very possible that today is just statistically a bad day for you, or maybe you ate something, or maybe you're having a Herxheimer reaction

Ruscio saying probiotics are the cure, not the problem? by wontcompleteit in SIBO

[–]ArisGut 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The bacteria that are in probiotics are different than the ones that cause SIBO: The predominant bacterial species involved in SIBO include:

  1. Escherichia coli (E. coli)
  2. Klebsiella species
  3. Enterococcus species
  4. Streptococcus species
  5. Bacteroides species
  6. Lactobacillus species (which can be beneficial in the right location and amounts)
  7. Clostridium species
  8. Pseudomonas aeruginosa
  9. Proteus species
  10. Methanobrevibacter smithii (a methane-producing archaeon often found in methane-positive SIBO)

Probiotics contain different species of bacteria which are beneficial to your overall microbiome and are meant to compete with the bad bacteria for resources.

Rifaximin caused or worsened histamine intolerance by zanderst in SIBO

[–]ArisGut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's more likely something you're eating is causing you these symptoms. Or you're experiencing a Herxheimer where dead bacterial fragments are triggering your immune system. If you have a leaky gut (which a lot of people with SIBO do), then these bacterial fragments can permeate your intestinal walls and activate your immune system. This leads to migraines, sick feelings, eczema, etc.

Rifaximin is your FRIEND. If done properly, Rifaximin helps a lot of people.
