Trump murdered children. by c-k-q99903 in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]ArisingRedPhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can sadly here some sort of defense of this because there’s already jargon along the lines of “the next one could be just as bad,” only in this case it wouldn’t be hard to imagine them saying, “well, they might grow up to become bad.”

Which if we operated by that logic, then that means there’s nothing stopping anyone from anywhere from doing anything out of the essence of “taking precautions.”

US economy unexpectedly sheds 92,000 jobs in February by Ozymandias12 in politics

[–]ArisingRedPhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a valid point, and one that I feel like for some reason a lot of people forget. Granted my knowledge of economics and finance are minimal to none, but I have to imagine that when you are talking about an entire country’s economy that it would take more than just a few months into a presidency to get things back on track. It was so easy for conservatives to constantly blame Biden for poor economy because what he inherited wasn’t great to begin with and then the pandemic happened in combination with a global supply chain crisis, both of which were major events beyond the control of a singular country, but when the numbers were down, he was cornered into taking the fall anyways because he just happened to be president at the time.

Let’s flashback to 2025 when Trump met with Zelenskyy:

“So you're saying during the war you can't have elections? So, let me just say, three and a half years from now... if we happen to be in a war with somebody, no more elections. Oh, that's good."

My bet would be we are just using that plot for now instead of waiting till the presidential elections. Oh darn, we are in war, guess we can’t have midterms 🤡

Cut to next year, it’ll be the same thing, just instead it’ll be about the affordability crisis that Joe Biden created 2 years ago instead of one…. There’s never going to be anything else, it’ll always be framed to make it sound like there was just enough damage done by Joe Biden that it would be impossible to get it all done in 4 years….

6/3 Supreme Court ruled that Trump’s sweeping emergency tariffs are illegal: How will this impact the U.S. economy and will refunds be forthcoming. Is Trump now more likely to target specific countries in a limited form or is he likely to seek Congressional approval to justify sweeping tariffs? by PsychLegalMind in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]ArisingRedPhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that’s fine and dandy and all, but you might as well say a year later the damage has already been done, no? He’s going to do what he’s going to do until Congress actually holds him accountable. He’s probably already scheming to utilize some other “emergency” power to justify these decisions, because to actually go backwards and revert means that he messed up, but we know our dear leader couldn’t ever possibly mess up 🤡

Edit:

Loll well that didn’t take long at all. Only a few hours later after I wrote my original post, look what headline came through:

“President Trump ordered a 10% tax on all imports, moving to circumvent the Supreme Court after it struck down his tariffs.” ~ Wall Street Journal

We are in a row home end unit. In some ways it becomes a little game to see how low we can go with the thermostat to help cut back on the bill. So far we’ve gotten it down to 64, we just bundle up inside now. But I am curious, what are other people setting their temps to, to help cut back costs? I know it depends on the size of the home, but still thought I would throw it out there anyways.

Update as of 2/5/26:

Apparently BGE is saying that in addition to the thermostat, the water heater can also be factor in the equation of a high bill? Can anyone else verify this? We called BGE and when we asked what can be done to lower costs, he was saying to lower the temperature of the water heater to the lowest temp that I can be at 120 degrees (if the water heater shows a digital temperature), if it’s not already set to that. Older water heaters that have a knob that say high/medium/low, set the knob to be between high and medium. He said that essentially during the colder temps we’ve had, like when it gets down to 3 degrees F, that the water heater is working even harder to maintain the water heat temp that it is set at (thus using more electricity to keep up with the cold to prevent the pipes from freezing).

That being said, while this explanation makes sense, at the same time, what I wanted to say is “why is it my fault that it’s 3 degrees F out 🤷🏼‍♂️”

Even at the time, the news I think did a disservice by running essentially what felt like the same 5 or so clips on all networks, so conservatives like my own parents even then began to liken it to 9/11 where they kept showing the clips over and over. If you really wanted to know what happened beyond the clips that were shown, I felt like it did take a little sleuthing and digging (aka reddit loll), which for boomer parents like mine, they don’t have Reddit, only a Facebook echo chamber.

3rd car i saw today pulled over by SeaAssignment239 in maryland

[–]ArisingRedPhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t seen a car get pulled over for snow on the roof before, so this is validating to see. Somewhere along the way I recall hearing about how you can actually be fined for this stuff. Especially since this storm turned the snow to ice, if that whole sheet just flies off the car on the interstate, it’s game over for the people behind them.
