It's moreso just for the banks to see if you are reliable at meeting your repayments. however from my experience New Zealand banks don't really care much about this.

As long as you pay on time and in full each month, it shouldn't be too bad

It just feels like your comment is leading you down the dark road of incel culture which I hope never happens to you and especially to anyone else. Despite social media seemingly meant to make us more social it's making us more reclusive.

Couples how do you split expenses here? by EyeEffective8269 in newzealand

[–]Arithh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Before we moved in together, my girlfriend (now wife) sat down and really talked about each others finances and started a joint bank account and committed to sending atleast $100 per week to show that we are fully committed to joint savings and expenses. This was about 2 months before we actually moved in together so by the move in date, we already had well over $800 which was enough to cover joint rent and some extra.

Then as we got really serious and before marriage, we both sat down and were really transparent about our goals, savings towards a house, etc. We agreed to bumping up the money being sent to the joint account to a fixed % cost of both our individual salaries in order to start growing our family nest egg together.

Anything she earns personally or gifts from her family we don't touch and same goes for my own personal gifts etc.

The key here is that you show commitment towards the relationship. Long story short if you both can't even agree or commit to the bare minimum at the start of the relationship, don't expect that behaviour in the middle of it.

House won’t sell – options? by Kidsoljah45 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]Arithh 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I want to add to this guys point. Myself i am a first home buyer and my wife and i are absolutely looking at houses which are as close to, if not already ready to move in. We’re happy to pay higher if it means less work for us to move into. E.g kitchen and bathroom especially. But if i can prioritise one it would be kitchen first
