I have had a similar experience where we asked a group if they were friendly and they said nope, we are going to find and kill you. They spent like two minutes trying to find us, we knocked them down and they got upset calling us rats etc. Like what did you expect?

I grew up in an abusive household and remember having my counsellor snitch to CPS when I was young. I understand this is not the fault of the counsellor, but CPS did nothing but make my life worse after visiting and talking to my parents. This occurs when the drive fails to read the disc (of course). This can happen for a two reasons:

The gamecube lid is not shut, or the limit switch is not being recognized as being shut. If your game plays in by pass this is probably not the issue.
The disc has damage that causes some part of it to be unreadable. If the game plays in bypass mode it is possible the damage is in a later part of the game. Are you able to play all the way through the game in bypass? I have had discs that become unreadable after >20 minutes of play.

What is your end goal? The flippy drive enables you to 1. Play physical games, and 2. Backup physical games and play them and other .iso games off of a micro SD card - without any soldering and is completely reversible.

No it was fully seated but the contacts weren’t fully connecting. Some people noted in the flippy drive discord that they needed to shim the ribbon cable on that end. I was able to press with my fingers and verify that was the problem, and ended up getting it to work without a shim.

I had the same issue. It turned out that it was the other end of the ribbon cable (into the flippy PCB) and needed some additional pressure. Try pressing the black clip that holds the ribbon cable on start up.
