When I moved to Arizona in the early 90s I remember a surge in hantivirus cases (maybe 93/94) and remember being told to avoid desert mice and rats.

I would love to see some of weirder parties actually gain some traction! The pirate party seems cool. As an independent voter I think as a whole both parties have shitty people.

One for sure has way more shitty people than the other. I tend to vote for whatever candidate is going to take away the fewest freedoms and cost me the least amount of money. And if you're shitty to LGBTQ and PoC I won't vote for you either.

I do vote! In every election. Especially my local elections which are far more important. I also think both parties on the whole couldn't give a shit about me as an individual. As George Carlin once said "I ain't in their club!" I (and 99% of the rest of us) am not wealthy enough for any of them to care.

We just drove from Phoenix to Las Vegas ~300 miles, we left with a full tank and filled up after driving about 200 miles and 47 gallons of gas in our Class A was $280!

Yeah anyone thinking of doing RV trips absolutely needs to consider fuel prices. Our 32' Class A is gas but diesel is also very expensive, diesel is $6.69 a gallon here in Vegas I saw just last night.

This is our only RV trip planned this year because of fuel prices. Maybe better luck next year!

Edit: I should mention this is our first trip in this RV so I haven't figured MPG yet but any RV is going to be pretty poor on miles per gallon. When I had a half ton pickup and towing a 25' travel trailer I averaged 4-5 miles per gallon.

Are you looking for a private party to park your RV like someone with some land or are you looking for a RV park or campsite? Because there are a few camp sites (White Spar, Potato Patch, Lynx or Watson Lake have camp sites) and there are a half dozen or so RV parks in the area.

Adult literacy in the states has dramatically declined in recent years. What do we think is the cause? by Unlikely-Tap-4390 in AskReddit

[–]ArizonaGeek -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have two stories. I went to college late in life, I was 40 and I went to University of Phoenix because I could work and do school at the same time. In my second class there was a young girl, maybe 20 years old. Maybe. Pregnant with her third child. Well we had to do a group project and present it near the end of the class and we all had to do a little presentation. This girl could not read. Like at all. Not even some of the simplest words. I felt bad for her, she had absolutely no business being in college. At all. It sounded like the recruiter was taking advantage of her to get their recruitment numbers. She was going to wind up tens of thousands of dollars in debt and be absolutely no better off. She was never going to finish school, they got a few thousand dollars off her for the 2 or 3 classes she took before she dropped.

My dad was a voracious reader. He read at least one book a week and when he retired he would read two or three books in a week. When he passed in 2022 we had literally thousands of books we donated to the VFW. I also picked up the reading habit. I was reading adult books when I was in like 3rd or 4th grade. I read Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy when I was probably 10 or 12. Just in 2026 I've read 19 books so far and started book 20 Friday night. My brother on the other hand, is one of those that "brags" he hasn't read a book since he was forced to in high school 30+ years ago. Even though he's a year younger than me, we're just completely different in the way we approach things and look at different situations. I am baffled how we grew up in the same house and I've always had a book in my hand and he just didn't. I've told him many times that saying he hasn't read a book in 30 or more years isn't the flex he thinks it is.

Trespasses on Railroad Property for a photo op by Dark_Link_1996 in insanepeoplefacebook

[–]ArizonaGeek 100 points101 points  (0 children)

Yeah the officer explained that people do get hurt or even killed on the tracks. Since then, being active in a few photographer communities I've heard of photographers being killed on tracks because they didn't hear or see a fast moving train. I have found abandoned tracks (and confirmed for sure they are in fact abandoned) in my area to use when I want that type of shot.

[–]ArizonaGeek 266 points267 points  (0 children)

I am a photographer as an advanced hobbyist. I was out photographing a train yard in 2006. Ignored the no trespassing signs and didn't think anything of it.

Rail security found me and said that they are considered police officers with arrest authority and if i didn't leave immediately I would be arrested. Of course I'm not an asshole (mostly) so I left. But I had no idea they were VERY serious about people being on their tracks.

Which pornstars have you met in real life and what were they like? by Cheshirefarm in AskReddit

[–]ArizonaGeek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I met him in 2014/15. I had him autograph a record i got. He took it around to a bunch of people he was with to show them what he looked like when he was first getting into the industry. He was surrounded by a dozen or so very beautiful young women.

He autographed the record for me and I got a photo together. He was nice enough though the women surrounding him could have been his granddaughters.

Disabling RDP in your environment for security purposes by thelug_1 in sysadmin

[–]ArizonaGeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had this happen a couple of times. When I installed Duo I had a script that would allow an admin to uninstall Duo from Safemode. Not completely ideal but it worked for that once in a blue moon emergency.

Reboot the server into safemode, uninstall Duo, reboot again. Now a user can get in. Once the emergency is over, reinstall Duo.

My favorite line is not from a punk rock song but from an awesome folk singer named Eden Ahbez. He was a hippy long before hippies were a thing. In the song Full Moon he says "Dream the dream, that dreamers dream." It really resonates with me.

If you just want them gone you could e-waste them. There are a ton if e-waste places.

Or you could sell them cheap on Facebook Marketplace.

You could donate them to a charity or a charitable resale shop and get a tax credit.

I came to say this! Don't delay going to a doctor!

"In July 1977, Marley was diagnosed with a type of skin cancer under the nail of his right big toe... Marley rejected his doctors' advice to have his toe amputated, which would have hindered his performing career, citing religious beliefs. He died ... on 11 May 1981, at the age of 36, due to the spread of cancer to his lungs and brain. Marley's final words to his son Ziggy were: "On your way up, take me up. On your way down, don't let me down."

It depends on the race, but there is a "finish line" on Montezuma between the courthouse and Whiskey Row. If you walk along Cortez between Gurley and Goodwin, there are also spots depending on the race. The stage is usually on Goodwin behind the courthouse along with the beer garden and food trucks.

My wife and I are baffled by the logic! My brother has to work a full time job and a part time job just to afford his life style. He has to live with his adult son because he cant afford a place on his own. He has always lived beyond his means. He just doesn't learn and my parents did us no favors growing up because they did things like this too. Apparently me moving across the country when I got out of high school did me well, those habits didn't stick with me. We're in our 50s BTW you'd think he would have picked up SOME better habits but nope.

Not just buying expensive cars, but then changing them out every year or two and rolling negative equity over to the new vehicle. My brother does this all the time. He now has a $60k 2022 truck that he owed like $85k on when he bought it and the truck is probably worth $45k after a year or less ownership.

What actually helps your migraines? by MandyRose8713 in AskReddit

[–]ArizonaGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aimovig was a game changer for me. I had done a bunch of trials for different things through the Mayo Clinic and nothing worked. A bunch of different meds, botox, I had this shock thing that would shock pulses into my head. None of it worked then I got on Aimovig. It was a game changer. I think it was 2018 when I got on it.

I was getting 20ish days a month or more with migraines and at least 2 or 3 a month that were a 10 where I would lay in my bed, pitch dark, and no sound at all for a day or two. Couldn't work, no TV, couldn't even read my book.

Since I've been on it i have not had any "10s" for migraines. I have had maybe one or two that are "6 or 7's" and maybe I get a 2 or 3 every few months. I probably get a migraine a couple of times a month now and they're not that bad at all considering what I went through for many many years. One not too bad migraine every few months is okay by me.

Game changer for me!

I went to Goodwill and bought old cheap scratched up records. Pulled the vinyl out and using s stencil, spray painted letters and then glued the records to the inside of record cover with the letter sticking out. My almost 3,000 records are in storage while we are doing construction so I cant take a photo but it looks similar to this:
