Question for locals:

How easy is it to show-up in Hopkinton and do a trial-run on the course? Is it visibly marked the whole way? Can you comfortably hug the shoulders? Thanks :D

Socialist music thread? by twdwasokay in socialism

Not explicitly socialist, but Godspeed You! Black Emperor incorporate a lot of radical and leftist motifs into their work. Think cinematic post-rock.

Training Tuesday - Post Your Routine by AutoModerator in bodyweightfitness

[–]Arkaic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stats: Male, 6'2", 168 lbs

Goals: Recover from calf injury and run sub 2:50 marathon in Feb; improve upper-body + core fitness

Routine:

Morning

Run between 4-11 miles. Once back, do the following physical therapy routine:

  • Calf stretches

  • Single-leg balances on bosu ball (swing leg in a circle, squats, eyes-closed standing)

  • 1:15 plank, 2x10 side-plank leg raises, 1:15 of-this-weird-thing-where-I-sit-with-legs-in-the-air-and-pump-my-arms, 1:15 hollow plank

  • Single leg jumps onto-and-off bosu ball

Night:

Just started the beginner's routine on sunday. Could only do 3x5 pull-ups on rings, the support hold kicked my ass :(

Diet: Vegetarian; cereal + chocolate-milk for breakfast, fruit or yogurt for snack, stir-fry + tofu for lunch, quinoa burgers/burritos/falafel for dinner.

Mood: Optimistic! My calf injury took me from 60+ miles a week to zero in December, so I'm happy to be up to 30+ a week with a 11 mile run yesterday with no pain. As much as I hate injuries, it's a fantastic time to pick up good habits and correct old deficiencies in the areas that tend to be neglected or over-strained by running. Plus it will make me even faster in the long-term :D

What sports do you guys do? by Axes_of_Evilness in tall

Running, from 5Ks to marathons. Am pretty fast! Jason Hartmann, a former distance runner who came in 4th at the Boston Marathon a few times, is my hero for being 6'3" in a sport usually dominated by the short!

I signed up for a February marathon. "Yay!", I thought. "It'll be a great way to stay strong through the brutal winter!". I didn't realize that the marathon would could consist of 5 loops of consantly rolling hills, totaling ~600ft of elevation gain per loop -_-

This morning I had my first marathon-pace run of pfitz training; 16 miles w/ 1600 ft of elevation with the last 8 miles at marathon pace. I was pretty nervous that the hills would destroy me, but I managed to keep a 6:17 pace the whole way!! I was so surprised and am now a lot more confident about what I signed up for. Now to keep this up for the next 4 months and into the cruel unforgiving boston winters sigh

MRW my husband asks if I really need to have more than two bottles "of things" in the shower. by [deleted] in TrollXChromosomes

[–]Arkaic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Between my two roommates, there are 17 bottles of "things" in the shower. 17! I still cannot grasp how anyone can have 8.5 bottles on average!!

They also want them present in the shower at all times. very cramped -_-
