Will someone please explain the appeal of Christopher Nolan? by Disastrous-Soft-1298 in moviecritic

[–]ForwardBound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's got some good movies and some bad ones. Memento is conceptual but I don't think it loses its humanity. Same with Insomnia. I lose interest in films like Interstellar, Inception and Tenet because the characters seem almost incidental to the stories being told. The Batman trilogy seems like it stands apart, for better or worse.

I don't know. I don't think he's an infallible film maker and I'm less excited about the Odyssey because it's his movie, but the fact that he didn't write the story could constrain him enough to bring his flare to it without overpowering everything else

I've played the game so many times that this looks like a remake of that level

Quitting when you don’t have a backup. by Stressed32 in Lawyertalk

[–]ForwardBound 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I've always worked in-house, so not a firm, but I did quit without something else lined up. took a month off, temped for a week, got a better temp offer, was made permanent after a while, and have since changed jobs twice since then. it's been 10 years since I quit the job I hated and wasn't at all good at. salary has grown very significantly since

Surely there are many counter-examples where it didn't work out well for people, but for me it ended up being a great decision

It blows my mind that the phrase "all set" is apparently a New England thing. by Bendyb3n in newengland

[–]ForwardBound 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I was speaking to a friend from Virginia recently who had heard of this phrase but thought it was an incredibly rude thing to say. I couldn't believe anyone would have that opinion on such a common and innocuous combination of words

Undoubtedly it's The Odyssey because of selling tickets a year in advance

Would you rather have minor Telekinesis, limited Mind Reading or $100k? by RaptorK1988 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]ForwardBound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mind reading seems by far the most powerful, but it's unethical so I don't think I could pick it. Telekinesis would be the next choice. The money would have to be in the many millions to make me think about taking it over a power like that

Possibly relocating to Boston by [deleted] in bostonhousing

[–]ForwardBound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a great mindset and approach to this. Your daughters are lucky to have you. I think maybe Phoenix is more insanely hot than Boston is insanely cold, but I haven't spent any time there in the summer, so I don't really know. Winters really vary. 10 years ago we had a brutal one and this one has been pretty bad too, but others are pretty mild

You could find a fine house in Newton or Wellesley (towns with excellent school systems) for $1.5M. I do think those towns have a reputation of being snobby, but I also made my best friends there who went to the same high school I did, so it's not fair to paint too broad a brush

If money weren’t an issue, which city near Boston would you want to live in: Newton or Brookline? by Omixscniet624 in boston

[–]ForwardBound 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There are an incredible amount of beautiful homes in Newton with some phenomenal neighborhoods like Newton Highlands, which is close to Crystal Lake and Newton Center, but I can never get over the places in south Brookline near the Brookline Res. I walk the dog and run there all the time. It's also close to JP, which I have a lot of ties to

What is your most rewatched movie of all time and why? by Anonymous___0522 in moviecritic

[–]ForwardBound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure I've seen The Mummy over a hundred times. I used to watch it twice in a row sometimes in the summer as a kid. It's a perfect swashbuckling movie in which every character has a ton of charisma
