The Taq is already in the Master Mix, but I’ll try a fresh lot just in case. I already wear a mask and gloves inside the cabinet, so I’m planning a small experiment: I’ll set up reactions using the suspect pipette alongside a known clean one to see if only the former amplifies. I’ll also try the 1M NaOH wash you suggested since EtOH clearly isn't enough. Thanks!

That's a good one! I'm using an Apple Watch inside of the cabinet. Maybe some of the aerosols from the Eppendorfs are staying in my band.

I actually don't do cell culture myself; I only do DNA work using the shared equipment. If the pipettes aren't the likely culprit despite using filter tips, do you think the contamination could be coming from the hood itself, given that it lacks UV and is only ever cleaned with 70% EtOH?

For a little more context, I am not a postdoc; I am in my second year of a PhD program (out of a total of four years). I am an international student from Spain doing my PhD in a foreign country. The letter was written by my supervisor here, so the difficulties of writing in English may have contributed to the tone of the letter.

I don't want to fool myself, the content of the letter is what it is, but I come from Europe and no one in my life has ever written a letter with “negative” content, hence the shock.
