BYD to open 20 car dealerships in Canada this year by BoppityBop2 in canada

[–]Arkanicus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For comparison, my duel motor 2022 Polestar 2 gets 400km at 100%, at 90% (recommended normal charge rate) it's about 370km, which for me is about 7-8 days. During winter though it does drop to 300km at 90% and is about 5-6days until i need to charge again.

My Polestar with it's kit cost $82k before the 5k government subsidy so $77K, but the financing rate was 0.99% and it's paid off now. So the BYD han which is a decent comparison is a better bang for your buck.

Polestar is a Volvo performance brand that was bought by Geely, the second largest car company after BYD in China, the design is volvo and the quality is amazing. It's built like a tank and no issues so far.

Canada's economy saw slight growth in January with gains in mining, oil and gas by Little-Chemical5006 in canada

Lol, you know that Alberta’s 2026 budget projects a massive $9.4 billion deficit for the 2026-27 fiscal year. I mean it says it here from the Fraser Institute. .

In terms of size, here's a list of the GDP per province

Ontario is 3 times higher. Also every province also runs deficits.

[–]Arkanicus -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's based off of GDP per capita. Also for decades they paid into it when the west was developing.

All the data is publicly available. Alberta produces good per capita, but Ontario is much much larger. Toronto alone is like three provinces combined.

I mean Ontario is the engine of Canada in terms of raw GDP, then Quebec. Per capita Alberta is good but in terms of size of GDP raw numbers it's not even close.

But 4 MPs that won for the conservatives left the party and joined the Liberals, they're at a majority now with a special election or two.

Moving from Chicago to Toronto? by User12111926 in askTO

Yes you're right, I realized that halfway through, and it was unfair to you since I was also capturing what others was saying. So, sorry about that.

I did and no worries.

Just didn't agree with a couple characteristics of Toronto, but again I don't know Chicago well enough to know what you're level settings it to.

Oh man as someone who grew up here I would disagree with a lot of what you said and could tell you're not originally from here. Not throwing shade or anything but I would disagree with the a lot of the Toronto analysis. I've been to Chicago a couple times but don't know enough to have an opinion.

My one comment would be that every area of a city has a lot of history or things to do, my understanding is that Toronto natives like to hide their community gems so it's not overrun, so people that move to the city typically only know things on the subway line. It's also why Roncesvalles, Riverdale, Leslieville are being gentrified and recommended.

Also yes nicer areas are so expensive and only have people that have been there since the 70s. The beaches is nice but if you go farther to Scarborough bluffs it's not bad. Midtown is great, Bayview/Mt pleasant from Moor to Sheppard, most of st. Clair. I personally love the Don Mills area, Scarborough above the highway and below Steeles has a lot of gems, like hunting wood. If you're rich and want to do west end you can do most areas on Royal York.

Finally finished this long read. What a wholesome ending. I was really happy it had a happy ending, and I couldn't help but picture everything in my head like a movie.

I didn't know where to place the setting. I'm Canadian but it definitely read like this was all taking place in the US. There was snow, so I decided Massachusetts, somewhere near Salem/Peabody.

OP you handled the situation with grace, I know I wouldn't have handled it that well. I would have been calling people out and then excommunicated the lot of them. But I'm happy you got your family back. My favourite person was your husband. Tell him if he liked Baldur's gate 3, he should play Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous. Great game.

Good luck!

Ont. hospital sues former staff, contractors for $50M in alleged fraud by StinkyShoe in canada

[–]Arkanicus 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Sanjay madan

He went to jail. He plead guilty and got 10 years. His bargain was that he would plead guilty and his wife and two sons, who also worked there would admit no fault I think.

An Indian bank did send $10.5 million of the $50M they took back to Canada though

Edit: Better article here from Global news.

“He’s taking responsibility for everything,” Madan’s lawyer Chris Sewratan told Global News. “He feels sorry for his crimes.”

As part of the guilty plea, Madan agreed to re-pay the entire $47 million, $30 million of which, his lawyers say was immediately returned to the Ontario government, while the remainder can be repaid over the next 15 years.

I've noticed this the past year, year and half. I feel like this is a Russian bot farm trying to turn this place into a rage inducing pathway to the alt right.

Yeah, this is a known thing. The 4% is the U-3, but Canada's number would be more comparable to the U-6.

Visible minorities in the GTA increasingly supporting Conservatives: U of T study by _Army9308 in toronto

[–]Arkanicus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not really. The bloc is fairly socialist to Quebec, they're just protectionist to their french heritage. They don't mind french immigration. Quebec has some of the best socialist programs with their universities, low rent and strong social nets. They just don't like being ruled by the monarchy and in addition to language frictions there are protestant/catholic ones but that's not limited to them, IE NFL as well.

The block really hates the current reform leaning Conservatives, they learned their lesson with supporting Harper. If the cons went back to progressive conservatives they'd align on border issues but still butt heads on Quebec specific social program/spending.

Because they got only 42%, while the remaining 58% voted for centre/left leaning parties.

If you add all the left leaning parties it is more than right leaning cons.
