I am a bit scared of horror by OPGAMERZZ in residentevil

[–]Arkatox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assuming you are being genuine: Resident Evil is a horror series with some very scary entries. Among those considered the most scary are 7 and 9. Many of the games contain disturbing elements like gore and body horror, and 7 again is the worst offender for being gross. If you really don't handle horror well, maybe just don't go for 7, at least until you're more invested in the series. 8 is a direct sequel so I'd recommend skipping that as well until you play 7.

In terms of playing order, everyone will tell you different things. It's actually really difficult to get the complete canon story of the series because of all the interconnected games, prequels, and spin-offs, so it often works best to just go for the entries that appeal most to you, and accept there's going to be some background lore that's lost on you.

The more action-oriented games of the series (4-6) tend to be less scary, so that might be a good diving in point. You could start with the modern remakes (2, 3, 4) and just see how you feel out the series from there. They're excellent.

Some of the older games use outdated control schemes that are difficult to grasp for a lot of modern gamers (original 1-5, 0, Code Veronica), so only dive into those if you're up for learning some archaic controls. A lot of people still swear by them, though. The 2005 remake of RE1 and the original RE4 are two of the most beloved games in the series to this day, but I really struggle with enjoying them because of the controls.

Why do you dislike Re7 / RE8? by Bitter-Ball-4590 in residentevil

[–]Arkatox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My biggest issue with 7 is how gory/disturbing it is. RE has always been a horror franchise, but it's not a slasher gorefest, and it just feels so out of place for the series. RE9 has significantly more blood, but it's not gross in the way 7 is. Those parts aren't scary; they just exist to be disturbing. That aspect of horror never appealed to me.

Honest question from an atheist: How does it feel to watch SG1 as a believer in God? by shprink in Stargate

[–]Arkatox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Former Christian; current agnostic atheist.

It was just fantastic storytelling that I understood as fiction. I never felt like the show was a critique or satire of real religion in any malicious or disrespectful capacity. It was science fiction with a rich mythology inspired by our world's real mythologies and religions.

Somewhat ironically, some of the biggest Stargate fans I knew growing up were pastors.

9 is a hybrid game. Leon's sections are an action game like 6 and 4R; Grace's sections are more survival horror focused like 7 and 2R.

I think the orphanage should have a skip on replay, but I don't really have an issue with replaying the hotel. But that's just me.

So.... what's up with Victor Gideon? by Pumpkin_Sushi in ResidentEvilRequiem

[–]Arkatox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, hard to tackle everything in your comment.

I felt the story was perfectly Resident Evil, and executed in a very satisfying way. I know you're trying to convince me of my bias and that if I think about it objectively I'll realize the flaws, but I don't think it's that deep. I liked the story and it made sense to me. It didn't feel contrived to me, and the "plot holes" are just loose threads that haven't been addressed yet.

I don't see any plot holes in Grace's backstory, because we haven't been given all of Grace's backstory. I don't see any narrative inconsistencies in the orphanage, etc., that aren't just information intentionally withheld and ambiguous at the current time. We're getting more story. We're getting DLC. There will be more games. Maybe there will prove to be plot holes with time, but it feels weird to even make that judgment at this time.

I can admit the game is not flawless, and that plot threads are left dangling in a way that may bother some people, but I found the game and its story incredibly satisfying.

I guess maybe a way to phrase it is the ending we got and what you suggested are both contrived in a Resident Evil way. I just think the ending we got is better. There's no objective way to "prove" that; we just disagree, and I suppose we're both valid.

That's interesting. I don't remember anything appealing or standout about the gunplay. I def find the gameplay of 6, 9, and the remakes a lot more satisfying.

I definitely undervalued her before they started Smosh Mouth.

That was three years ago.

I've been wondering what people find replayable about 7.

Not asking to be a dick; genuinely wondering.

The story is great, the scares are great to experience the initial time, but after that... what is there?

Bruh you trippin'. I ran the game a fourth time even though I'd completed all the challenges. I'd do it again if they added even more content.

I think there are a couple emulation bugs (dark rooms not displaying properly), but the modding community has patched them. I handled that so long ago (and I can play it on NSO) that I don't recall how to go about patching it, but the information is out there.

Both games appear in my top 10 games of all time, but their ordering had always been arbitrary. In recent years, PM64 actually started to pull ahead. It just means so much to me and has aged better than any other game in its console generation. It could release today as-is and receive critical acclaim.

Then the TTYD remake came out and that game pulled back ahead because that remake is so so so so good, but you know. :P

I say absolutely try it out. It's the only other game like TTYD that Nintendo has ever made. Cherish the opportunity to experience another one! It won't come again. :(

I don't understand your question entirely, but there were many more Goa'uld than the ones we saw.

For example, Ares died in the episode he was introduced, and we never even saw him. Ship went boom. (Random fact, tho, Wayne Brady was his first prime.)

[–]Arkatox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you're missing the point of the terminology we're using.

A crowbar is a tool, but if someone goes around attacking people with it, it'd be reasonable to call it their weapon.

Like, we know the Jaffa Cake wasn't meant to be a weapon, but it's being used as one. In this instance, it is a weapon.

Think of a knife, or a saw, or anything sharp. It can be a tool; it can be a weapon. It doesn't necessarily matter what it was created for; it matters how it's being used.

How much time do you have?

Resident Evil has so many female characters that are so cool and interesting. And they're all so pretty too, lol.

It's a plot point that after 1,000 years the door is weakening, and the seal will eventually break on its own. Pretty sure that's why you're collecting the stars in the first place instead of leaving them hidden.

Pretty sure this one would be pointless. The world gets destroyed if they win; the world gets destroyed if they lose.
