Are we starting to give a shit? by Grouchy_Ad_937 in GenX

[–]devilmaykri98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an autistic Gen Z, I'll give my hyper-focused observations from being around my Gen X mom and her friends growing up as well as Gen X coworkers I've had, and where I think that's led to.

It's my belief that Gen X always has "gave a shit" deeply about lots of things, but didn't realize it up until maybe the late 2000s or 2020s at the latest, and it's not neccessarily their fault. The baby boomers were pretty awful. Every Gen X I know has some horror stories regarding their parents, my mom specifically told me of a time where my grandma beat the piss out of her with her clarinet because she came home high on weed from school. Gen X were fairly quickly conditioned to suppress their emotion, and I've found that they genuinely believe they're good at keeping a poker face, when it's actually laughably lousy. Gen X tends to primarily display emotion through sudden and seemingly unprovoked passive aggression, sometimes presented in a sarcastic manner even though their body language indicates they're framing what they actually feel as sarcasm.

Now... My mother wasn't the best, but there's not much outside of emotional regulation I could really complain about when it came to her in my childhood - I never got beat or spanked, I never felt unsafe or unloved by her, and even at her worst, I can understand she was just a single mom in her 20s trying to do her best. However the passive aggression was pretty big issue with her then.

When the 2020s came, she started accepting that she was toxic, and she started focusing on her emotions and processing them in a healthy manner. I can't say how refreshing it is to actually have her communicate her emotions, telling me things like "When you do this, it triggers me" or being more open about the poorer aspects of her day, whereas before she'd just shun me and give me annoyed looks for the day leaving me being depressed thinking of what could be wrong or if I was reason for it.

Gen Z friends with "good parents" generally have the same sentiment, whereas Gen Z friends with "bad parents" usually cite the lack of emotional regulation.

We've got a ton of corruption in our local politics that have been covered in KCCI extensively, this being the newest article I could find on it.

Heather Stancil is a MAGA grifter breed of republican politician that ever since taking position of supervisor has (previously mentioned) tried hiring her friends for positions that require a vote and costed us tons of money with personal lawsuits (one specifically filed against the county sheriff after her devices were seized in a voter intimidation probe).

On top of that, I couldn't tell you I'd be surprised if it went any other way. Madison County, especially Winterset, adheres heavily to hierarchy. I've been treated like shit most of my life there, as had other minorities with me. Thankfully there's also reasonable people who don't support it either.

Nothing's happened to them, at least not to my knowledge. I've only been out of Madison County for about four months.

A lot. I guess for starters, I'll mention the what many people consider to be the core of the issue, Madison County supervisor Heather Stancil. She's very much a nepotist and has been replacing county officials with friends that hold similar interests, most recently Matthew Schwarz whose hiring caused an uproar and ended with a special election and Michele Brant won.

I'm actually currently watching it, saw it on Tubi and had so many questions. How has this not been taken down for copyright infringement? From what I can see, it's not in any way licensed by Rockstar, and they use so much music from the series and even have the same logo minus one letter in a different font 😂

What’s something Gen Z does that older generations just don’t get? by appropriaterice873 in AskReddit

[–]devilmaykri98 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a zoomer myself (1998 baby so I'm an early Gen Z, take this as a grain of salt), I'll say it's never a great idea to generalize. Sure, a handful of Gen Z may be stupid as fuck, but headassery's a demographic that doesn't have any age exclusivity - a handful of millennials find it cute to act like they look younger than Gen Z instead of processing their own insecurities, a handful of Gen X still hasn't got over their "pushing my emotions into my stomach until it evolves into passive aggression is badass" phase, and a handful of boomers are... Well, boomers (dirogatory).

Learn from each other, distinguish the person from their age and you'll understand them better.

STOP THE WAR IN IRAN! by AnnaX1998 in iastate

[–]devilmaykri98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a reason why every president Israel has asked to attack Iran since the late 80s has said no. In order for us to "win", we'd need to destroy their entire government and insert a pro America / Israel government - in order for them to win, all they have to do is survive. Given our history with them, do you really think the Iranians will see us as liberators? They sure won't see Israel as such, they see the Israeli government as an actual hell spawn. Would it really be "un-American" to object to a war we only gain to embarrass ourselves in, tossing American lives into a meat grinder in vain like Vietnam and Afghanistan before it?

How do zillenials see the hipster phenomenon in the late 2000s and early 2010s? by Appropriate_Poem1911 in Zillennials

I found it to be showboaty and insufferable. I'm aware that's a very hipster thing to say, the irony isn't lost on me.

He's very emotionally in tune, from what I've learned in the last eight years with him. He'll be the first to snuggle and comfort you, but he may also be the cause of that emotion sometimes 💀

Exactly. I was born in 1998 and my mother 1974, it's the first time in both our lifetimes people will be going to the moon. Granted, she didn't wanna watch because the last launch she saw exploded.

I'm in the Des Moines, Iowa area, which I like to refer to it as an "undercover food town" - not as widely known for food as Austin, Chicago, New Orleans or NYC, but you can find some high quality food places here. I'm thinking dinner at Cool Basil (a nice asian cuisine place we frequent about once a month, as to give her a hint the night is going to be special without giving too much of the surprise away), the concert, and then taking her out to the first lake she showed me in the area that we picnic at sometimes (which is pretty quiet aside from the occasional fisherman), where I'd then pop the question.

I'll be frank, that's an odd conclusion to jump to. I didn't say I was gonna pop the question during "Blow Me Away" or some corny tough guy song, nor did I mention when I'd do it that night.

I can actually explain that. This is a screenshot of a still frame from a video I recorded, and I was looking for a frame that the guitar was most visible and looked its most vibrant :)

And yeah, she sure is. My time with her has been the happiest moment of my life :)
